I have all the mods you describe rob although my silencer doesn't seem to get hot, maybe its because I have the mid silencer in the engine bay. From jaspers description I would think fuel leak is to blame which is why the engine hesitated. Also turbo cars raise the fuel pressure as the boost goes up so when give it stick you will be running 15 or so psi fuel pressure over base which means you only find a weak spot the hard way.
Real shame as it was a lovelly car

I thought we'd seen the end of these dreadful occurances which were happening a year or so ago in a few SSR registered Fury's . Since that time there's been so much talk/advice regarding not wrapping the exhaust(creates more heat then if there's a tiny gap in the wrapping= fire) -- Also to open up exit/s for the hot air plus heat line the close areas. Some people were fixing their exhausts to the chassis with solid metal -- hence a massive heat transfer

Just seen pics just picked myself off the floor i am shocked at the amount of damage, such a shame when so many hours and money have been spent. A stiff drink would be a understatment....Ned

Jasper, really sorry to hear this, and scared, as my SR20 fit is progressing as I write.
Any way if you do come this way, let me know and you can have a go in mine, hopefully may inspire you to try again.

Got out very quickly (seen too many movies with cars exploding), got to a safe distance and called 999. No extinuighser on board - what a numpty....
By the time the fire brigade got there the whole car is burning
So that's the end of the Stylus .... I need a stiff drink and a lie down .......
Thats absolutely tragic, I cant possible imagine how you felt watching it & waiting for the fire engine to arrive!
Really sorry to see that

What a nightmare!!!!!!!
I have ALL of my Stylus Kit except exhaust, windscreen,(door hinges & roll bar which I'd paid Tim in advance for but never saw due to his circ's) in my garage & shed. I dread to think how much I paid for it all.
Been thinking about Piston Heads or Ebay as I'm more into my bike these days. Don't know if I could help or not.
Honestly would'nt blame you for not wanting to repeat the experience though. I hope that drink you had was a bloody big one.
Cheers,Bob.
