I did Abingdon in a Westfield many years ago. It rained. It rained so much that the event was cancelled by 11am. So the practice runs where used for the times.
In those days I drove to & from the circuits.

I know its a good venue with loads of track time, but I will always feel miserable when I think of Abingdon. So I may not go.

That's great Kevin :D That's a damn good time for a standing start lap at Goodwood , in fact my time there on the 24th April was 97 something although not my PB . There's no ' entries so far ' list yet on their website so no idea what we may be up against. Let's hope it's dry and warm :)

Kevin , are you on the reserves list :?: You're not listed on the paddock slots that came with the finals today  OR , is it that you're a late entry so not printed yet :?: Looking forward to seeing you again after so long ------ Llandow wasn't it then before that a Goodwood sprint in 2004 or 5 :?

Our entries where accepted & confirmed. I also got a copy of the finals today.
There is a lot of names missing. We should be no. 27-30. I did receive an email on the 4th asking which club we belonged to & which class we are running in. This is strange as I listed both clearly on the entry form.

I did only register the day before the closing date.
Dont think there is a problem.

I see you only have the escort in your class. There is 4 entrants excluding us in our class, however 1 is a Volvo Amazon? The others are a Fury, Caterham HPC & Ginetta G20.

Yeh -- bit strange that , I also had an email asking for engine type/make and I entered it all on the form :? I only read the paddock slot page and have read the finals/class pages now and see the 4 entries are split above and below 1700cc . Looking at David Cockburn's Fury entry made me assume we were in one class because I ran against him last year with that same bike engine :? in a class of 6 at the TWMC Tonhire sprint

The Fury in your class was pretty quick last year in the TWMC Tonhire . He came over to peer under the flip after our practice and was asking where I bought the ARB --- took my number but hasn't been in touch so maybe he's come up with something similar  Seem to recall he did a 97 or 8

That means we can wave to each other , cos you're at the start of the second bay and I'm opposite you in the same bay

Actually the forecast for Saturday at Goodwood has improved as of today . It says high's of 14 degrees , sunny intervals and dry :D Looking forward to meeting up again Kev . I'll be there around 7-15am.

As mentioned by Rob our engine blew up. Well I havent stripped it but it is out of the car & I cant turn it over & the spark plugs are out & good. So I think the bottom end has gone.

Bit lucky really as we had done all our runs & Liz was just having a free extra fun run when the engine finished.

Trouble is although it is road registered the amount of time we use it is only to the petrol station before events. This means like Rob, the only time it runs is at a circuit, when its to late to solve anything.

Anyway as we are away the bank holiday weekend & entered at Pembrey the weekend after, I need to sort it now. Well zetecs are old. Either very cheap for unknown millage or very expensive for worked on units.

After searching the web I discovered a Focus ST170 (zetec) would fit & give me VVT etc.
Well the engine turned up tested & warranted for 12months & film wrapped the next day (Charles Trent) £450 plus VAT inv delivery. I did later find some new Focus zetecs from Kit Cars Direct for £700 delivered.

But things are never what they should be & not quite the straight fit I was hoping for. Still Im committed & doing it. Liz is of course very keen for me to spend time and money on the Stylus, 'cus she just turns up & drives it.

More on our Goodwood running & updates later.

You're really pushed for time now aren't you --- phew :!: Do you have a pressrised tank or does the water just overflow via the pressure cap from the water rail :?: Just wondered why it got hot enough to boil the oil ---- you've got a Raceline sump :?:

Enjoy the bikes on holiday Kevin :P and put the Stylus out of mind for a while

Rob, I have a pressurised tank. The water level & quality was OK. It was the oil filter gasket that blew the oil out. I dont think it was loose, it certainly didnt leak oil. My sump is a Scholar unit so should be good.

I now have the gearbox out as well. Have marked on the sump/lower housing where I have to grind away to fit the starter - quite a lot. The replacement engine has a shallow sump as standard, but I cant find out if it needs baffles for the in-line config.

If I can get the gearbox, starter & bellhousing sorted tomorrow & fit the engine back in Sunday I will be well pleased. I do have to work though, Gosport in the morning then Bracknel afterwards, without the add on's.

Got the engine in over the weekend. I still have a few bits to tidy up & sort, but its in & running  Started within half a turn - I couldnt believe it.

Need a gizmo to step the voltage down from 12 to 5 volts (very low load) - any ideas.

Also need a flip front. I have already taken the engine & gearbox in & out twice in the last 6 months. Maybe next winter.

I thought the ST170 had some differences so assumed you couldn't use your TB's and engine management :? You did well to get it in and running in this weekends heat :o

Put ''ZX1'' plus some ' nice ' oil in it Kev ' ------ it could just save the day next time  Goodwood's such a big circuit that the cornering ' G's ' are greater than most other sprint courses we come across
:)

Just driven around the block. Transplant seems successful. I have used my existing throttle bodies, they bolt straight on.

I still have to wire the VVT solenoid & a bit of tidying up. Wont be able to finish until next wednesday eve now. Then off to Pembrey friday afternoon.
