Has anyone noticed how the black and damaged wishbones were made :?: Probably not too obvious I suppose on a photo but I've handled them and removed the rodends , to post with the new ones.
The very small inner wishbone pieces that the rodends screw into are actually ' threaded inserts ' that are intended to be welded into tubing -------- the rather narrow tube is simply ' butt ' welded onto the threaded insert's side on the rear mount and around the circumference butted onto the front mount :o
Amazing when you consider the power the ' rotary ' beast put into that passenger side wishbone when ' on track ' but at least it just bent as opposed to cracking

One of Craig's wishbones cut and notched in the jig ready to tack up . Just so you can see I've actually started Craig
Inserts and rodends should be here next week . Off to get steroid injections in my shoulders tomorrow so wont be attempting any welds for a few days :( You will get them in JULY as promised though Craig :)

Do you mean my ''rear trailing arms'' that allow fitting 15 inch shocks with either 10 or 9 inch spring ? ---------- OR
If you mean ''the above'' but with an adjuster fitted at the chassis end plus rodend , rather than poly bush ------- I could do it but haven't as yet

Using in situ adjusters rather than poly bushes increases cost as they are around £20 each plus the rodend

Craig , just so's you know what I'm planning --- I've been doing some calculations on rodend thread length and insert extention mm's . Your wishbones will have the inserts 10mm's protruding which will give you the ability to have 255mm to 275mm wide wishbones --- that's with rodends not out futher than half their thread length. No idea what your wheel width/off-set is but this should cover most situations.

All welded up now Craig , just need threads cleaning out , treating/painting . Rodends are here so will set the wishbones up at 260mm but don't forget to finally torque up on the car . Set up wants to be about 10mm's from front pick-up to rodend sphere (towards front of car)then either spacer or washer behind that , nice and tight ---- bolt up VERY tight too then the sphere becomes the pivot not the bolt :!: This will give you good castor and if more is needed then set it closer to the front pick-up
PM me your email address and postal address then I should be able to send them by end of next week latest.

Matt, I spoke to Nev earlier about the wishbone pins, and he said something about them being available else where for reasonably cheap. I had a google and have ended up ordering these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/classic-car-c ... 20d477fd1e as it looks like my wishbones will be arriving pretty soon. I'll drop Nev a note to tell him I don't need them anymore, but it doesn't sound like he was planning on making them now!

Hi Craig

Yes, Rob pointed those out to me the other day, so I told Nev about them myself. Nev's would be twice that price, so its a no-brainer really.
Now I haven't actually bought any yet, so can't vouch for fit & finish quality, but they do look right.

What we need is a willing test pilot to buy some & report back

They're on their way , he's ordered some Matt . I may possibly order some if any more wishbones are requested , so's to supply the full kit needed OR people can simply buy direct whichever suits

Ready to 1st class post tomorrow Craig , once they're thoroughly dry. I've set them at 260mm centres but only finger tight . Use an adjustable spanner/flat grip to hold the rodend on the flat area/not sphere , when tightening or the rodend will move ' right ' of centre when real pressure's put on --- I then put a tippex mark across nut & insert so you've got an easy check of possible loosening :!:

You've got a huge adjustment range --- the inner rodends can have 1/2 their 40mm length out of the insert safely.
The outer rodend being 5/8ths shank can adjust out 25mm of it's total 45mm safely.
BOTH THESE EXPOSED THREADS INCLUDE THE LOCKNUT :!:
STRENGTH wise --- inner rodends 16,000lbs --- outer rodend 31,000lbs .

Castor can be increased by mounting the wishbone as far towards the front of the car as possible BUT not allowing the rodend sphere to rest directly on the mounting plate end --- leave , say , 1/8 th inch or 4mm. It can also be increased by exposing more thread on the rear inner rodend than the front rodend ---- this pushes the outer rodend towards the front of the car. SPACERS can be made OR simply washer them to position until you have the set-up you want.
I use some of each method --- narrow spacer in front of the inner rodends/wide behind them PLUS the rear rodend is further out than the front.
The further out the rear rodend goes --- the track becomes fractionally narrower NOTE :!:

Let me know if you want rear arms or front ARB at a later date

Mine have been on the car since 2005 and it's no different to poly bushes ride wise , merely more precise . Rodend loading isn't in shear with these wishbones , the coilover is internal which puts the loading on the outer top rocker pivot ------ I have that pivot in shear but none of you guys have , to my knowledge. Having said that , when I hit a tree head on , the rodends that snapped were lower outer wishbone and steering arm to rack rodend --- the top one in shear wasn't even bent but I replaced all top and bottom plus steering rodends anyway. My lower outer isn't 5/8 ths shank either.
I '' life '' the one's in shear every other season , regardless of wear.

It's also VERY important to dry rag the rodends clean often ------------- NEVER lubricate or WD to clean them. It has the effect of carrying dust/dirt back inside the sphere , then acting as an abrasive :!: :!: :!:
These rodends are ultra high performance quality with their own lubrication .
