Retro fit independant rear suspension
Re: Retro fit independant rear suspension
Had a bad weekend, car dynode at 410bhp at the wheels on Wednesday, but over the weekend did not finish a race due to problems with the waste gate after a few laps, did not get in a clear lap to get a best time, but it went from 18th on the grid to 4th in the first lap running with guys who can do 2.24's my best lap on the old suspension was 2.29, and it was beating cars that were all over me last year through the fast sweepers. So I am declaring the suspension mode a success. Can't upload pictures but there are some on my face book same user name.
Re: Retro fit independant rear suspension
Car is still down on power due to heat soak into the injection system, vaporizing fuel, but the weekend I had the car driven by a professional driver, who declared the new irs rear end as perfect, I managed two wins even with the serious loss of power against cars that left me for dead on the handling last year so I am declaring the irs as a success.
Now working on seriously lowering the car and softening the front springs, both of which will mean serious body work to raise the front wheel arches.
Apart from this working on fitting a fuel cooling system, and supporting the inlet system as it is so large we are getting cracks in the welding on the plenum chamber when it is only supported by the manifold bolts.

Sounds awesome Kelvin , glad it's turned into quicker lap times . Having felt what 300bhp at the wheels feels like on track , 410bhp must need some really good grip/set-up to harness it allBerw wrote:Car is still down on power due to heat soak into the injection system, vaporizing fuel, but the weekend I had the car driven by a professional driver, who declared the new irs rear end as perfect, I managed two wins even with the serious loss of power against cars that left me for dead on the handling last year so I am declaring the irs as a success.

Here's a vidio of the car with the new suspension, taken from a mates 328, the 328 had a fueling problem as you will see, it nearly stops a few time, my car had a major power problem, the ECU cut out when the VTEC cut in to change the cams so I could only rev to 5800, (the car revs to 9 and has 450 BHP when it works properly, which I hope it will for the next race
Had a problem with cracking the the pipe in the inlet sytem between the turbo and the inter cooler, turned out the front spliter is generiting so much down force that it 'stretching' the pipe and riping it from the turbo, remounted the intercooler so it stays fixed relative to the turbo.
The civic is seriously quick,
Any way you can get a good view of the new IRS at work from this vidio

Re: Retro fit independant rear suspension
Just want to remind us all of this clever IRS design by Tim Benbow and Chris Hill , that can be found in the build manual , when you scroll down nearly to the end . (click Matt's pointer to the pdf)MattD wrote:http://www.clubstylus.be/build/manual/l ... manual.pdfCMA wrote:I thought about going IRS, but as the extra comfort on the road was about the only benefit I could see but it got seriously outweighed by all the possible negatives/hassles, not as good on track, more settings to mess about with the get it right, alot of chassis work to even get it fixed. If I decided I was that desperate for IRS I'd probably swap the Stylus for an car with IRS already.
Anyone point me to a pic of the fancy IRS, just interested to see it?
To Antnicuk - And how are your IRS plans going Tony ??

Thanks Rob,
A timely reminder. But where to get the suspension arms and diff mounting plates?
Are Siltech doing upgrades yet?
I need to call in and see Matt
Cheers

Re: Retro fit independant rear suspension
A long way off that Kev , he's only just collected a truck load of jigs and moulds . First he'll have to build a new building just for the STYLUS project , concrete footings , base , frame , cladding roof etc They already have lots of work ahead of them with existing orders for their suspension and engine builds etc , so the building isn't the only task . I've offered my car for Andy to evaluate on track , before any moves they might have in mind . Winter is not far away again , so I'd 'guess' a complete SILTECH car will be at least 2019kevp wrote:Thanks Rob,

A new building!! Product Evaluation for Improvements!! OMG!
They are really rolling their sleeves up and aiming high.
They will probably still be ready before me. Iv just got to make a doorway into the barn big enough for the Stylus. But with 750mm dry stone walls & tree trunk roof supports - I keep finding easier jobs to do.

Re: Retro fit independant rear suspension
I picked some parts up from Siltech a couple of weeks ago, they were talking about replacing the front suspension to take outboard shocks .
We will see.

Re: Retro fit independant rear suspension
Yes , they have huge experience with that setup on race cars , their own designed all round suspension was developed on track . Hence my offer for Andy to drive mine on track before making any decision . They know best what they need to do for success with the STYLUS , I just don't want them to miss a trick and just maybe my car may surprise or notSchrodinger wrote:I picked some parts up from Siltech a couple of weeks ago, they were talking about replacing the front suspension to take outboard shocks .
