Hi all ,
Just had the final instructions for the BRIGHTON SPEED TRIALS and guess what ? D.Penn's in a class with one other , jammy git ! my class has 36 entrants starting with CHENG LIMM who is a many times champion in circuit racing beating all comers most of the time in his 720 bhp RAM COBRA --- f ---- g hell ! The remainder of the entrants consist of mostly 5700 , 6300 and all manner of massively powerful motors ------------- I can pick em !!!!!!!!! This might be an occasion when I'll be chuffed to be 18th --- maybe ?
Have a look at the entrants list and cry http://www.brightonandhovemotorclub.co.uk (under events, trials entries) I'm in sports libre cars over 1600cc which is C8 . Makes interesting reading . Also SBD have their championship winning Westfield in the same class with two drivers. It's a new Duratec with silly bhp so Andy B. tells me. Looks like I'll need to stock up with RED BULL !
Rob.(check out the class record !)

Absolutely !!! but it will be good fun , you have to fill out a commentary info sheet and that helps to raise SSC's profile. Normally there are thousands of spectators milling around plus more hanging over the railings from the road above for free and the speakers are all along the beach area.
I entered in 2003 in roadgoing class and did a 14.07sec'd run which got me 5th in class out of 25 entries -------- this time will be harder to make an impression though. It's televised too , normally a little peice on the news.

Must think of something interesting to put on the sheet ?

Well the car's all sorted and checked , washed and loaded on the trailer ready to leave at 5-00a.m. ugh !!!!!! I knew there was another good reason not to enter the championship this year ! Last year I was doing that nearly every fortnight from March till October . We don't often start before 9-ooa.m. but it's the unloading , moving the trailer where you're told and all the scrutineering/signing on/walking the course and briefing.

It's going to be dry according to the met' office :D :D :D :D Rob.

Will report back how far down the grid I come :(

Hello Phil ,
Yes , it will be all day Saturday , not Sunday too. Practice runs kick off around 9-00a.m. then first timed competition runs at 11-30a.m. I'll be on the beach side paddocks not the arches/town side --- about halfway along the paddocked cars .

Yes , O.K. Next event for me and Matt Downes, also on this list , is EELMOOR Sprint near Aldershot on the 1st Oct .Tim SSC will come to display his car and support us we hope unless something crops up business wise. It's run on the Army drivers training area , nice bit of smooth tarmac , basically a figure of eight about 1 mile. Normally 2 practice and 3 competition runs and run by the FDMC .
About 12 classes , from standard road to modified road , sports and modified then various kit road and modified. Food at the venue , the usual egg/bacon roll or burger -- hot dog etc.
It would be great for a crowd of Stylus nuts to arrive too !

Rob

Speed Trials results

Hello guys ,
Well the sun was shining , Matt and Dean came to support / free tickets helped  Times are preliminary because I didn't get a printed time sheet but that will come in the post asap. So these times are as my son checked as it came up on the screen. Post will show 64ft time 1/4 mile time and terminal speed so will correct later.

The course is just 1/4 mile and bloody bumpy ?

2002. Last time at Brighton ---- 14.07 sec's 99.9 mph
2006. 1st PRACTICE -----------13.5 sec's ?mph :o
1st COMPETITION -------13.48 sec's ?MPH
FINAL run ----------------13.38 sec's 102mph :D :D 8)

Don't yet know where I came in the group of 36 but they were doing some mind blowing times between GT40's , COBRA's and TURBO SERIOUS RALLY CARS plus a glorious LOLA T70 with silly CHEVY power. 10. ??? sec's for one and loads in 12. ??? sec's .
I would imagine that the website I listed in a previous post will soon show all results probably before I get post !
Anyway , had a great day and the lads reckoned the STYLUS sounded great off the line. Thanks for coming chaps , didn't see Andy B. or Nev' Powell so the other management had plans for them ???

Rob.
Just had this photo curticy of Matt Downes --- it's on the way back from a run.

Image

And this one from Dean Roker -- Fury Le Mans driver / ''Rob'' supporter.Image

Just had the full results from the clerk of the course today which shows me 21st from 37 entries . In amongst the ones I managed to beat were 5 GT40's ,a Cobre 5.7lt, a Kougar Jag 3.8lt, a Cougar Maserati 4lt , a Westfield 5lt , an Escort 2.3lt Duratec and a Halliday jf something -- whatever that is but it looked quick . Also quite a lot in the other classes too. :o :o :o

Thanks Phil , I do try ---------- Nev' will probably say '' yes he is very trying ''

That's why the Stylus as a car is such good value but without many competing , it's not generally recognised.
