First pic of my build on this site

Post by Nissanman »

Thought I'd better post a pick finally. Not much is happening with the build at the moment due to loads of work on the house - but should get going again by November. So here's the spec:

Classic body with flip front. Nissan SR20DET engine fully mounted with mods: Apexi airfilter, Pulsar GTiR intercooler, Apexi Power Command programmable ECU, Apexi AVCR boost controller, wide band lamda, cool plugs, uprated clutch, lots of Samco. Should run around 260-290bhp when done.

I'm about half way through the wiring, but the complicated bit is done - and it was a real nightmare. Plumbing is 3/4 done.

Widening the rear arches to take 245 x 50 x 15's to make the most of the power, and running through an Sierra LSD - may have to upgrade to a Quaife.

Still to do: finish of LOADS of bodywork including a wide bonnet bulge, wiring and interior, though I've got all the bits I need, it's just time I don't have at the moment.

Hope to have it all finished for summer 2007.

Looking good,

And you already made more progress then I. Mine is still in storage together with the engine, but it's not mounted yet.

I'm rushing to get all bits done to the house by the end of this month, so I can start with the car.

WOW ! looks like you are constructing a car around an engine , that will be interesting at BRIGHTON SPEED TRIALS if you enter it ?

Rob - sorry about that, a domestic emergency ruined my night

Anyway will certainly have a go at the speed trials once I learn how to drive the thing!

Werner, mounting the engine took a lot longer than expected, lots of chassis rails to cut and move, and a major job widening the tunnel to fit the gearbox and mounts. I also fitted the harder Nismo mounts while I was at it - there is so little room between engine/gearbox and chassis rails I wanted the least movement possible, and the Nismo mounts are very stiff.

No problem , I was just dissapointed . Regarding engine mounts , I only have 4mm each side of the gearbox to tunnell and it's never been a problem.

4mm gap - ohhhhh, I dream of a 4mm gap

I know a fellow user of this engine in a Se7en had a problem of the gearbox knocking on the tunnel, once tuned they can produce a lot of torque as well as bhp.....

Then maybe you should solid mount it , that's what I'd do if the tunnell gap was deadly close . All SBD's cars on track are solid mounted , so was Martin Bailey's Westfield with mega bhp. Helps get the messages to your backside !

I'm only kidding, I have about a 5mm gap so it will be fine. The Nismo mounts are excellent though, nice and solid but still take out some of the vibration.
