Starting -- again !!!

It's been bloody cold out in the shed for months now but I did get out there and start the Stylus/run up to temperature etc about 7 weeks ago . Spun round for what seemed like minutes before breaking into life then ran without incident .
So today , thinking I'd be short of time to prepare it for 2nd April Goodwood test day after my trip to Abbeville , I went into the shed (plus fan heater -- still cold) to fit two new 3/8ths rodends to the steering rack ends . They were ok but have been there since my '' tree fracar '' repairs in 2006 , still no play in them but seeing as my life sort of depends on those two very small rodends , decided to replace them. Fitted them both and re-set toe then thought I'll start her up and run it again , so they'll be no problem when I need to load it for Goodwood on 2nd April (not far off )
Whizzed it round for nearly a minute with just one very slight cough then nothing By now the battery wasn't enough to have a second go but tried anyway ---- same for about 30 sec's but absolutely now't
It's on charge again now , till it's fully up to maximum then I'll try again. Fan heater's sitting on the exhaust manifold aimed at the head , so if it's that damn water temp ' sensor yet again that sends to the ECU , it may start if the ECU thinks the engine's up to temp ' . If not then obviously it can't be the sensor --- that's twice in 3 yrs I've replaced it and always after the layoff in winter/spring.
Anyone else had this problem with tatty sensors after little use
