It's that time of year again...

Will to live being sapped by phoning insurance companies.

Somehow I ended up with Adrian Flux last year but the renewal quote they sent me is a joke at £315!

The year before that I was with Frank Pickles for about £150 but currently their only underwriter who will cover under 30s (yours truly is 29 1/2) won't cover Q plates.

Footman James say that SSC is not on their approved list of kit cars and won't cover it.

Waiting on a quote from Be Wiser and have to ring Sureterm and 2gether later on. Any other recommendations?

Check out my insurance recommendation on the LINKS page . Mention my name and Peter Smith as previous kitcar clients of theirs --- ask for the guy mentioned as contact , in particular.

Not necessarily the cheapest (but that's not necessarily the best anyway), but I have always used MSM Insurance for my kits - good personable service, and friends have had only good things in the event of claims.

Well, in the end I went with a broker called Insurance Choice who got a policy with Highway (part of LV).

Here's what I found in calling round:

Frank Pickles - Wouldn't cover due to me being 29. Their only underwriter that would cover me wouldn't cover a Q-plate.
Sureterm - Wouldn't cover me because I have a previous insurance claim for fire damage on another vehicle.
Adrian Flux - £315
Footman James - SSC not on their approved list of makes so won't cover.
Be Wiser - Never got a reply from them
MSM - £427
A-Plan - Never got a callback from them
Insurance Choice - £197

Roll on next year when I'll be 30 and things will be easier (I hope).

If you ever modify it try GREENLIGHT , they only do modified cars so understand that enthusiasts care more for their cars and in the main are better drivers so less risk ---- that's what they told me anyway
