Hello from Germany

Post by SSCPETER »

Hi,

my Name is Peter from Germany. I live in Hohenstein-Ernstthal (Saxonia) probably known for the Sachsenring, where everey Year the Moto GB comes to Race.
I bought that SSC Stylus from a Guy in Germany, wich is actually selling another Stylus with an Honda Fireblade Engine.
The Car is exactly what im searchin for a long time. Its Light, fast and looking pretty good.

now the Sad Part.... :(

after 6 Days with my Stylus the worst thing i ever could Imagine happend.
On a tightly Road an older Man cut the Corner and was on the middle of the Road.
I Could brake but it was to late....
He was Injured with lacerration and need to go to Hospital.
I was very lucky and got only an trama spin and some hematoma.
im still shocked about what happend and sad about the Car.

Now i need to know if its worth to Re-Builed and what would it cost.
I dont have the Technical Equiqment and the Time to repair it by myself.

plz Help

Oh ----- I do feel very sorry for you Peter , I think I know who built that car too , it's listed on our member's cars database. Looking at your photo , it appears that the chassis is bent where it's steel skinned and goes behind the exhaust manifold etc . That makes the repair tricky but not impossible . The fibreglass body is just a matter of skilled composite work but who's at fault legally in your country for the accident :?: The body moulds and chassis jigs are still in the UK but not being used at the moment . The previous business owner now works for a rally team and not making Stylus's but is contactable sometimes , if he's not in Europe or elsewhere with the team.
If you need to know more regarding TIM BENBOW , the body/chassis moulds/jigs owner then PM me for contact details.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Just looked at the data on your car Peter , it was built by LEIGH PRATT in 2002 and sold a few years back. I seem to remember he was from Birmingham area SOUTH or NORTH of . A nice build spec too.

hi,

i was loocking at Data Base. MY Car should be the Number 53 with the Number SSC030119. It has a Kawasaki Ninja Engine.

The Questions whos fault the Accident is , could be a little bit tricky. Because the Guy sad i was on his side of the Road.
The Police makes Pictures of the Accident and normally they could see on the Coolwater marks that i was not on his side.
In the worst Case fall, i getting no Money. Lets hope the best.

for the Repair:
My Mechanical Friend tells me we need a new Frame, not sure if the Engine is still working.
so that means their is no Mechanical Workshop that can repair the Car ?? SSC dosnt produce the Car or Parts Anymore?
What do u think will it Cost to Repair ?? or ist it better to buy another Stylus and make it to one Car?

It's hard to estimate costs without seeing the car up close , to assess the possibility of cutting off the bent sections , provided that the chassis from bulkhead back isn't damaged. I've seen that done on a WESTFIELD after a race crash . If it were here , not Germany then I'd say , yes , it could be done with the contacts I have plus pieces that I can make myself. I'd say the engine is the least worry , it's the front chassis damage assessment accuracy that's needed . It would have cost Leigh at least £10,000 to build , probably £12,000 so if written off that's what you're after or a good proportion of it , if paying others to do it.
To me , it looks as though if doing the work myself had it been my car then about £5000 would cover it --- chassis front rebuild/body repair/possibly some engine and ancillaries etc.
Finding another Stylus just for it's chassis would be a good way , if not paying too much.

Hi

Sorry to hear about your problem. I have a similar problem after having a bit of a moment the other weekend, although I have a Fury so the factory is still going.

Could you not get a local welder to to copy the chassis from the corner that is still ok. I believe a typical repair is to cut out the effected tubes and weld on new ones. The new tube fits over a sleeve that is welded inside to the existing stub that remains.

That's what I had in mind but we don't know whether the chassis behind the bulkhead is straight or not

i would say the chassis after the bulkhead is also damaged, as u could see on the picture. Because the metal plates on the ground are loose.

Is it possible to get the Construction Plans of the Body Frame? or can i order a new Kit of the Frame?
I want to ask an Welder to builed me an new Frame.

thx for ur help

As I said in a previous post Peter , send me a ' pm ' and I'll give you the contact number for Tim Benbow who used to manufacture the cars and still has the moulds and jigs ------- it's only a chance though because he works for a rally team now but may just help you
If not then it's a secondhand chassis you'll need :(

The contact is his private mob number and I've not given it out ever before so evening would be the diplomatic time to try

before i can unmount or repair anything of the Car i have to wait till the Insurance of the accident oppenent tells what is the actually Value of the Car.

Because this is the amount in dispute for the Court.

For the Moment, i only want to be sure that is possible to rebuiled, and where i get the Parts.
So Tim Benbow is the Head behind SSC ?
Can i still order an Stylus RT ?

I will Contact u Mr.Stylussprinter when i know what the Insurance says about my Case.

sorry to hear about the accident.....

ok..is it worth a reubuilt? considering the UK sales prices: NO

buy another one in UK, modify it to your demands and use the exsiting registration (Fahrzeugbrief / Zulassungsbescheinigung) for your "new" puchase.

Vehicle make SSC
Date of first registration 26 April 2005
Year of manufacture 2005

Registration number: DK05 DMX

interesting....due to the registration date in combination with the local emission laws this car "officially" cannot be homologated in germany!!

the german dealer where you bought the car is well known in the kitcar / super-seven scene for its "registrations"
