Hi there, It has been a while since I had a Stylus, but am now retired, and looking for a project. I am lucky enough to have a friend who is an excellent engineer/race mechanic, with numerous skills including working with carbon fibre and glass fibre. We wondered if the Stylus moulds and chassis jigs etc are still around? Is there any news of Tim who ran SSC, or does anyone have a contact number for him please?
It is a long shot, but we are interested in the possibility of further developing the car in the future. KInd regards, Paul.

Hi PigeonDave, Thanks for the reply. I emailed Tim, but the address is no longer active. I phoned the number listed against his profile, and disturbed a poor lady who doesn't know him....
There is not much I would aim to change, but believe that Rob's efforts with the suspension have been brilliant, and the overall look of the car could be slightly improved. My engineer friend will have countless ideas on how to improve manufacturability, and a decent half hood, supported by a taller and wider roll over bar, and some different seats and dash would also be on the menu. I think the design is great, but could be tweaked to give added appeal, and easier accessibility to wiring behind the scuttle for instance. More thought to the exhaust through the sill would be a benefit.....just a number of minor tweaks....sorry...I am rabbiting on. Hope Rob can put me in contact with Tim. Cheers, Paul.

Hi Alfablack, Thanks for your reply. We are interested in purchasing the rights to manufacture the design again, plus the moulds and jigs etc - sorry, reading my first post, I wasn't very clear. This would be more of a hobby than a business. I would also be interested in your classic Stylus, but would be after an IRS chassis. Do you know if the chassis is easy to change to IRS please, or would it be a nightmare? Where are you located? Regards, Paul.

Hello Paul, I did not know that Sylva did an IRS version as I have only seen live axle and DeDion type. By the sounds of it your engineer friend would be the one to ask about a conversion if taking on the manufacture is what you want to do. This car would therefore make a great demonstrator for your/his skills. As the bodywork is unmolested as from the mould you could modify for your purposes and take your own moulds.

Let me know soon I am looking to sell this project on quickly as I have found a Fury / Phoenix hybrid that has has come up for a price I cannot afford to miss. It runs a 2.3L 240BHP Duratec, Mazda 6 speed, Sierra LSD, Nitrons I think. Has full weather gear heater etc. heated screen as the chap uses it to go to Le Mans etc. and custom long range alloy tank for the same purpose. It is fully trimmed with leather Caterham type seats. Colour is a Dark Metallic Grey with Satin Black "Cobra" stripes and runs the Caterham R500 type Alloys. In fact it looks like Caterham could have manufactured it - it's beautiful. He needs cash urgently so it's up for relative pennies. Downside is I am up here in Staffordshire and he is in Guildford and I am having difficulty selling my Ducati to fund it and seller needs it sold.

Hi Alfablack, Yes, you are probably right - I am getting confused with the Fury . Thanks for the offer of yours, but we are going to see one locally today which looks very promising. The 2.3 duratec sounds absolutely amazing. I fitted leather S-type Caterham seats in my last Stylus, and they were great. Good luck with it - hope it happens for you.

Agreed to buy a lovely Stylus - what a beauty - a real credit to the current owner. We couldn't believe the attention to detail. Not sure about a project as it doesn't need for anything. Can't wait to pick it up. Will post some pics if I can find out how to do it.... I selected a file and clicked on "add the file" . It seemed to upload ...then disappeared.

Is it blue with 2lt XE SBD engine , image three piece wheels and all grey upholstery

No it's red with 1600 X flow 711M with big valve unleaded head engine fully rebuilt. Twin 40 Dellorto carbs. It has only done a genuine 1000 miles since new. New minilites, new adjustable Gaz shocks, stainless rear exit exhaust and custom made dash.

That's a relief , I thought it may have been '' Andy Bailey's '' (RIP) car that I and his brother have been trying to trace without success as yet

Are the perspex headlamp covers still available anywhere Rob? Mine has Porsche type headlamps, and I like the more streamlined look. If they are, will I need to fit different lamps to accommodate them?

Alec(with oprange RT now sold to Joseph Moore) had a contact who made to his pattern and I think he's now set up as car builder restorer , carbon , fibreglass etc etc , so yes they can be had . Fitting with existing lamps -- no , also fitting required lamps does intrude a little into the space for tyre when cornering --- mine got ripped out at Cadwell having just cost me 400 quid to fit myself . So what you intend using the car for is important , on track/lowered will be tricky but do-able . I'm off out now but I'll look up the name and report back ok.

Thanks Rob, much appreciated. I will use the car mainly for road and an occasional track day. If fitting the other lamps is likely to cause a problem, I will stick with these - they don't look bad, and are like new.
