I've had my share of ' starting ' issues , since the Stylus was a 'race only' car and earlier this year bought myself a very powerfull RoadStart with croc clips at £145 . It's been brilliant all through this sprint season , not even trying to start on the race battery only but connecting the roadstart each time . However , once down the pitlane at Goodwood , having moved many times through the waiting area of 20 plus cars , you are then at the rear of a line of 12 to 16 cars . These are let off at 20sec intervals 4 on track at a time , so you still have to re-start the car at least 3 times and the roadstart is in the paddock but it still needs the bonnet open to jump the car --- 2 bonnet pins plus 4 other side connecters.
I digress ----- so yesterday I bought cable and connectors to fit some Anderson jumpstart's into the cockpit on the passenger tunnel. I didn't connect direct from the battery. Positive went to the LeMans cut off switch in the dash then the negative I connected to a bolt that was holding the battery tray to the passenger footwell . Obviously I removed the bolt completely to grind the steel footwell back to bright steel around the bolthole. It's not yet fixed to the tunnel , I'll sort that another day . The difficult bit was crimping the very strong connectors around the battery cable , as I wasn't prepared to spend £50 for proper heavy cable crimping tool. Crushing them using only the corner of the bench vice worked ok but then the connector was deformed wider which made pushing the cable plus connector into the Anderson's was quite a fiddle ----- anyway job done now apart from a handle which I've ordered online , then I'll fit it to the tunnel.
My roadstart is always live without an off switch so the croc clips used to each have a housing BUT now it just has the one Anderson connector which I can drop into one of the housings.
So now I'll be able to connect the roadstart before attempting to start the engine without getting out of the drivers seat , undoing the 6 point bonnet then back in the car to start ---- out the car to shut the bonnet --- back in the car etc etc
You can imagine the scene

Re: Engine start issues
Started to pull the anderson plug and cables across to the point on the tunnel for mounting ---------------- damn thing pulled out of it's connector tab at the dashboard end , so much for ready made cable and tabs . I'll have to take it right out then re-crush it on the bench vice

Could if I had the gear but it's done now , opened up the metal folds and paired back more cable for a better clamped area. I used a 1/4 steel rod across the folded tab then clamped both in the vice --- job done .norma wrote:can you fill with solder? tends to make a better joint than the crushing method!
I'm trying to get loads of little jobs in the shed/cars done because at a few days notice I may have a letter telling me I'll get my other hip ''BHR resurfaced'' at Edgbaston Hosp ' Birmingham. When the left one was done 14 yrs ago , it took me 3 months before I could physically work again , so could miss the season opener in April if jobs on the car aren't sorted now
Little jobs take me a long time these days as I don't work at it all day , plus I pay for it for days after the job's done
