hi all
just been out for my first run in the little car after some winter mod's ie new doors rad side windows and new dash plus clutch mod witch i can now use a short escort clutch cable. all was well and had i good trip out . after some hard thinking i have decided to keep the bike engine in my car and rebuild the fury chassis stylus body one to witch is going to need some chassis section's replacing in the passenger foot well and some new steel paneling to the drivers side rear section floor under the seat all the trailing arms look to be good and the front rockers and wish bone's all look good . once i have the body removed then its off to be shot blasted . i still have not settled with engine choice as yet . one question id'e like to ask do i need to make any alteration's to modify the gear box tunnel ( ie make wider ) any advice wuold be of help .

If you intend either competing or even trackdays , then I'd widen the tunnel at the bulkhead end. This would then allow you to get the bellhousing further back and the engine a few inches which will totally transform the handling , even though Stylus's are already very good. If I'd done that little mod ' when I built mine it would corner even quicker than it does now , regardless of all my development :!:

hi rob
thanks for that. nope i done't think i'm going to be entering any events as yet as i'm not that good yet . it's the build i'm thinking of at the moment as i am not up on engine's just looking to make it easy for putting one in as it need's repair's anyway .i still havent made up my mined yet as to what i will be putting in . i'd like to keep it as simple as pos so lot's of power is not that big of a important issue . if anybody has any photo's of chassis mods that could help with my build that they don't mined shearing would be grate ..

thanks regard's ian

Rob, what do you consider to be the optimum weight distribution front to rear on a Stylus?

You won't do better than 50/50 , driver on board , unless of course you use a bike engine. Track performance wise , opening up the tunnel at the front would allow the engine back probably 6 inches or so , in which case it may be possible to get 60/40 (more at the rear) Most wouldn't bother .
I've got mine to 52/48 so 60/40's possible with chassis mod's . A lot depends on '' your personal weight '' :)

Interesting. A combination of the lighter duratec, heavy de-dion and being about 14st gives mine a balance of 54/46. I'm looking forward to the next opportunity to get it on track to see how the balance has improved since getting the suspension set up. .
