T5 in a stylus

Does anybody know if you can fit a t5 gearbox into a stylus chassis without widening the tunnel?

It's a nice strong box but short of ratios available if track work is planned. A type 9 has approximately 4mm each side , so some measurement across the front edges would be a pointer. If clearance under the sump isn't a problem , you could lower the engine mounts a little(tunnel is tapered )that would give you more width available.

Doesn't 5th get mangled when you open the box up?
Wouldn't a BGH E8 box do or something from spc gearboxes?

there are lots available for the t5 its lighter than a type 9 and without work the type 9 cannot handle the revs thats what normally kills them
t 5 box as a 5th gear problem but only when used in big torque motors and lazy drivers trying to pull in top at low revs the transmission shunt then knocks the teeth of
the only problem is the cost they are about £1000 for a good box

I've decided to use a spc semi helical. Do to the light weight of the car and the small tyres (185) I expect it will break traction before the torque limit is reached.

Just a touch

Due to me struggling to find a decent way to fit a fia type rollbar I've decided to go down the turbo nutter route,
Silvertop zetec
Steel rods
Forged pistons
Jenvey throttle bodies with a nissan pulsar plenum
Big intercooler
Etc
Max power anything between 250-350bhp and the same sort of touque

Still on the english axle, and I think the lack of traction will still come into play, but I will go and see Phil peacock about such things.
Phil peacock is the guy that built the drive trains for fords wrc back in the day.

After some serious thinking and reading as to power output for the engine, I've come to the conclusion that anything much more than 250bhp on the road will proberly be a waste of time and petrol, especially with only 185 tyres ( which I can spin in the lower gears already). I'm still going down the turbo route but have gone smaller, so say hello to my brand spanking new garrett gt2259 which I picked up for the princely sum of £56.00

According to garrett it should be good up to 280bhp

I only have 231bhp in my 575kgs Stylus , running on 13x7.5 wheels with ZZR 215X55 and she's pretty nippy on track , plus I've developed the suspension all round to cope with it. Can't begin to imagine what yours will be like on 185's

You've got to remember that my car weighs more plus is used 2 up quite a lot , so I think the power may best be described ( in Rolls Royce speak) as adequate .
Due to the small size of the turbo it should spool up nice a quick and give good power from around 2500rpm.

Phil sounds like an interesting guy.
I've heard in the past from the guys at Procomp (I think Ivan there might have known the Ford guys) that after the english axle, came the Fiat one. Might have been off a 124/125.
Anyway the design team took all of the bad points on the english and improved them on the Fiat version. These mods included stronger tapered half shafts and bigger bearings.

The beauty is that a english nose will bolt directly to the Fiat axle.

Maybe you could ask your friend about this and if its true.
