Where have you guys mounted your speedo sensor?

Have thought about doing a bracket off the gearstick plate and having the magnets on the front of the prop shaft.

Cant imagine that the prop will move back n forth that much in operation.

Looked at mounting off the diff at the rear, but will be tricky to get something in there really.

Mine's on a bracket on the diff nose. It got covered in crud, corroded and stopped working once; though that's probably a risk wherever you mount it under the car.

Being old school , I have a cable onto the T9 gearbox plughole . Job done

On the front wheel hub, as there was an ideal mounting point for it by chance.

He wouldn't pass IVA with it mounted there as the front wheel won't be moving when.they run it up on the rollers for the Speedo test.

That's what I was thinking! Cant mount it off the rear as its a live axle. Looks like the front of the prop it is then! Its about time someone did a sensor that can be put into the Type 9 box speedo drive to retro fit an electronic speedo!

I don't think the front of the prop would be the best place as it is a sliding section, I know it shouldn't move a great deal but the last thing you want is the speedo dropping in and out. I think the diff flange would be better as you can set any sensor up over the magnets without the magnets moving from the sensor.

thats exactly where mine was, worked well. Prop doesnt move enough to cause an issue and if it throws a magnet you normally find it stuck inside the tunnel so an easy job to refit

Mine did pass the IVA with the reader on the front wheel. I just had to show the documentation & set up procedure, along with a bias towards over reading.

Was quicker than the other cars & testers messing about on the rollers.

Something I've been thinking about, as its always P'd me off that most solutions are crap.
Do like the type 9 adapter too.

My own car has the magnets in the end faces of the 4x prop bolts (machined recesses to take them & then glued) & the sensor is in a housing bolted to the diff case & pointing at them. It was a lot of work....and its still crap... having lost magnets & snapped the sensor off twice over the years, usually when kicking down.
Somehow that 2mm fixed gap disappears & contact is made. I did 900 of my 1000+miles in France last summer on iPhone GPS.

I've just bought a new Stack Speedo & the £65 hall effect sensor to go with it, am now looking for a new home to mount it.
Quite liking the front wheel hub idea... got any photos Kev ??

I have emailed the company that do the Type 9 converter to see if it will work with the ETB instruments. If it does I will order one and see how it fits etc. Not happy with the bodge I've had to do to seal off the old speedo drive anyway, so will sort 2 issues out then! Another step closer

I have spoken to Digital Speedos and the Type 9 adapter drive works with ETB instruments. I will get one and try it an report back. Got to be a far neater solution that using the magnets that's for sure!!

I will try to take a photo the weekend.
Mine is also a Stack unit. the sensor picks up on the brake disk mounting bolts. So must be a handy eye to fit it in there. As you know I have given the car a hard time over the years & it has never given problems.

Got the sensor in last night. You need to cut back the plastic speedo drive though, otherwise the plate does not fit in, bit of a poor design really.

If you go this way, do it with the box out of the car if you can as its a right pig if not!
