I'm not sure if Christmas is late or very early this year, but I picked this up today, just the start of the big rebuild project.

All most, actually CR semi helical, tracsport gear kit.

What ratios did you go for?
I have heard that he does a proper long 1st.
I've got a BGH E8 in the Fury (tuned zetec) which is good, but im thinking first could be a bit longer as in the Alps on the hairpins im sort of between gears.
Maybe i just need a bigger pair and go a bit quicker.

Mine's 2.04 1.54 1.24 1.0 0.92 but I've got a 4 paddle ceramic plate clutch , so slipping in 1st is no big deal. Diff is 4.4 so 1st gear at 8300 rpm is over 60mph

It's a 2.48 1st with a .82 5th, I'm going to run a 3.54 diff on 13" wheels ( more on those bad boys next week when I pick them up)

I think you may well regret the 3.54 diff , you'd need 300 bhp minimum to use the top end , probably 400bhp . I ran a 3.89 diff at first build with 170bhp which was a cruiser for road but even then the top end for that diff was never possible . Moved to the 4.4 diff with just 200bhp which was still good on the road and a touch louder. Eventually jumped it up again to 231bhp on the 4.4 but I'm track only with it since 2005

According to westfield gear ratio calculator I will gain around 5mph per 1000 rpm as at the moment the car is on 185/60-14 tyres and it's going to be on 185/60-13 tyres but I will have a pair of 205/60-13 wheels and tyres in reserve. The build spec of the engine will allow an easy 300ftlb of torque ( I think about the limit for the gears in a light car )
The engine will be turbocharged with a 3 stage boost by gear system ( really boost by speed, but that's what it's called) giving low boost at slow speed gaining boost as the speed increases. A self imposed rev limit of 6500 rpm will keep the theoretical top speed to 144 mph on the 185s and 151 mph on the 205s.
Should be fun .

What's your engine and size
Sounds impressive torque . The diff's torque limit

2.0 zetec, steel rods, forged pistons, tubular turbo exhaust manifold, td04hl 19t turbo with a 7cm turbine housing, jenvey injection, gtir plenum modded to fit the jenveys, emerald ecu, steel flywheel , uprated clutch, the afore mentioned tracsport gearbox built by Phil Peacock ( EX ford works gearbox guru ) english axle with quaife diff.
Some people say the diff won't take it while others use it with no problems, in fact I'm meeting a guy on Sunday who runs a similar car with a blown zetec producing nearly 400 bhp ( he sprints it , you may know him Jeff Wiltshire ) he has only just gone to quaife half shafts.
The spec of the turbo means that decent boost will be available from 2500rpm and will hold boost to the 6500rpm redline

I run Quaife shafts and ATB , since my Engish standard shafts went bang at a Curborough sprint , just off the startline in 2006 . Jeff I know well and he now has huge grip with a wheel and tyre uprade , so there'll be a lot more torque with that grip being used . Don't really like the next obvious move that some make when upgrading power/torque ie. Atlas , as it's massively heavy .

Did you ever see the post about Jeffs mangled input shaft. (sounds wrong
)
Google it, its a good pic. I saw it when visiting Steve and Barry at Fury Sports Cars
Are you sure you're not wasting you time with big power and an type 9. Wouldn't it be better to go for a more special box?
I've only got 225bhp and i think that's the limit for these boxes, Happy to be proved wrong.
I think i remember reading that if youre putting big power through an english axle you need to make sure that the crush spacer doesnt crush and that the teeth mesh with the correct backlash.
looks like BGH have increased their Power & Torque figures

Yup I saw the pictures of Jeff's box a bgh e6 if my memory isn't wrong, hence going for the tracsport with bearings under the gears, while I agree I'm on the ragged edge the fact that my rpm limit will be low ( type 9s don't like high rpm and torque) and the fact I will be running boost by gear meaning I can regulate the torque of the engine through the gears means in the lower gears I'll have less torque, if it goes bang then I'll have to lash out on a Sadev or just turn the boost down, as for the diff, it will be set up by the best and the crush and back lash will be spot on.

just turn the boost down. Would you? Really?
I know I'd be buying the better box
Who would be setting up the axle, im always looking for names.
be warned that the BGH light weight nose (english axle) is a little too flexible when setting up. This is what i was told by the guys setting my axle up.
Never knew about the bearings in the SPC gear set, do i need to rebuild the box with his really long first ?

The diff will probably be done by Phil as well, but from what I've read, they aren't that hard just it takes a bit of time.
While picking the wheels up I asked Jeff about his bgh box that went bang, it was the 3rd gear, which is an endemic fault with any type 9 that uses the STD ford parts, Interestingly he said that sprinting is hard on gearboxes as the oil is cold when you give it full beans, which makes it froth and basicly stop lubricating.
