Fitting RT bodywork and soft top

Post by Schrodinger »

Are there any instructions for fitting the RT bodywork to a standard Stylus or instructions for the soft top?
I've got the parts for both but just wondering about how to do it.

From memory and I haven't got the RT kit on mine , you lay the panels over the existing body area they will replace , checking that the edges that will not be cut are inline . Either glue gun or pop rivet the panel in that position then cut through both RT and existing f/glass panels . Then bond from behind and filler the joint :?:
The RT panels get gradually thinner towards the edge to be fitted . Try contacting Matt Downes via PM here or messenger on Facebook to confirm . I'm obviously guessing
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Hi Keith

Rob has the right idea... Take it you've picked up the bits from Siltech ??

Put the car up on blocks level all round, wheels off.
Lay the panels over your existing body, fix all three parts (per side) so they all line up - I used the rear sill/rear arch corner as a guide.
The junction between flip front & the sill is particulary tricky to line up.
Dont try & do it one section at a time, that will just create problems down the line.
I used duck tape to hold it all in situ, then you cut through both layers of fibreglass - ie just inside the edge on the RT kit & through your existing body.

Obviously once you cut, the two parts start to spring away from each other so gaps can get bigger. So.. go slowly.
Thin cutting disc on a grinder for the straight lines, vibra-tool for the curves.

Then... retape the RT parts in situ on the top side. Hopefully your gaps arent too big ! Get the whole side taped on & make it look how you want it. I did both sides together so you can manage both profiles together. Watch out for the rear arch bolster/splitter mounts - these need to be as close to vertical as possible.

When it how you want it.... lay up with matting on the underside faces... and wait for it all to go off. Remove the tape.... fill the gaps on the topside with more resin & then filler topcoat.
Rub it all down... off to the paint shop....

It one of those nervous GRP jobs that just flows once youve made the first cut & are committed !

Rob/Matt
Thanks for that, yes they have been collected.
Any hints for the soft top as I can't figure where to mount the frame.

Keith , if you pm me your email address I can photo the fitting position with measurements . Can't put photos on here , it won't accept them for whatever reason . Probably because I'm not techy enough to figure it out :P
