Just heard today from David Penn aka 'DP' that the ACSMC hill climb championship will go to GURSTON DOWN in 2007 for one of it's rounds
Apparently it will be on 15th July 2007 unless any changes crop up. I'll definately enter that one . For those who haven't spectated there it's a ' must do thing ' for 2007. Better still , enter your car . Simply join the ACSMC Championship Sprint and or hillclimb then you'll get an invitation automatically.Cost of ACSMC is £7 for the hillclimb champ'p and £12 for the sprint champ'p . Then entry fees vary in cost between £55 for N.Weald sprint --- £120 for Goodwood plus everything inbetween . Gurston's usually £70 .
The venue is stunning and a great spectator feast. You can see the cars everywhere , start line , hollow , karousel/ashes . Single seaters , sports racers , saloons plus the normal crop of kit cars. Entry to spectate is £8 . There's a restaurant plus bar and access to the pits is free.
It's a very specialised sport as the track is very narrow with ' NO ' run off so learning has to be slow/cheap or fast/expensive depending on how many repairs you can afford The times that these guys do is awesome i.e. kits do 32 sec's to 36 sec's , normally on slicks/around 300bhp , developed just for the hills. My times in comparison have been 42.16 sec's in 2002 and 39.85 sec's in 2004 which is the last time I got an entry
Maybe crack 37 sec's in 2007
Rob.
