Hi all,

Just making an irritating 'I'm new!!!' post :D

Mainly here on a kind of quest for some info at the moment...It's been an ambition of mine for quite a while to build a kit car (the closest i've got is about 1:8th of the size :(), and recently i've been looking into it in a lot more detail, and the Stylus is a car that really really appeals to me.

Currently in no state to be able (money-wise, space-wise etc) to build a car and probably won't be for quite a while (what with tuition fees and all that!), but I'd like to know a bit more about what's involved. I have tonnes of silly questions in my head but i won't spring them on you all in one go (at least not yet...).

At the moment I'm working in Wincester, saving up some money for university (going to Exeter in oct. to start a physics course).

I know there's already a thread about this, but does anyone have a link to the build manual?

Hello Tom,
Welcome to the club :!: Unless you're intending buying a part built kit that someone's not finished --- the '' manual 's '' not so relevant now because kits are sold in modular form which means there's not much of the tricky work for a buyer to do now. First module arrives looking like a car :shock: then two more. Contact SSC and he'll explain plus he has the modular spec' o.k.

There was a scanned in PDF of the SSC brochure on one of the recent threads, I'm not sure which one, but it will give you a lot more info.

Thanks for that :D

12k for the RT does seem pricy, but i suppose you know you've got pretty much everything you need and that the parts are all in top notch condition, so i guess it's extra piece of mind for during the build then.

Would i be right in thinking that this completeness makes the Stylus/RT a good choice for a first kit build?

RT kit build ease ?

To be honest , building an RT or CLASSIC in modular form is an absolute doddle compared to my build where everything was either made or sourced by me. Tim's spec' is very high , just read the components list and the quality , it's more like a component car not '' kit car '' as we have been used to expect in the past from all manufacturers. It also gives SSC more control over build quality of the finished car. So a secondhand Stylus built as a modular kit will be much less risky ---- suspension/body fit/door fit etc etc . Tim also has new upgrades not just set up wise but also interior. You can have carbon panels instead of alloy / floor peddles / anti rollbar / oval tunnell cover etc etc . He's always thinking of ways to make the car more attractive and simpler to build whether trade is good or bad.

£12k is a lot BUT to put that in context I built a Tiger Cat in 2002 the "fully inclusive" kit cost about £5k then you had to buy the bits that were not included racking the price up to about £6.5k then the donor on top of that and the reconditioning of the parts, I guess I ended up paying the thick end of £8k to get a J reg car on the road.
But the Stylus at £12k plus a new engine and recon box will get you a current registration car, there are some extras on top of this but they are not overly expensive to allow some choice in the finish.
I am still yet to buy a Stylus but am certainly not looking elsewhere.
