DIY Seats

Has anyone made DIY seats successfully?
I'm thinking of a 16mm ply seat and back with foam slabs glued on and a suitable upholstered cover. This was the 'technology' used by a 7 seat conversion for an Astra estate I bought about 12 years ago. I have access to the skills, but will I run into SVA or other problems later?
Your thoughts greatly appreciated as always.

SVA isnt a problem. Just Bolt the seats bown and make sure the edges are covered.
The basic Westfield seats were just 2 cushions on ply backs sat into place (no fixing). When the occupant was strapped in the cusions couldnt move. Had trouble with an empty passanger seat at times trying to be sucked out.
16mm may be too heavy though.

Very envious of this guys skills with metals and his array of equipment BUT not too sure of his heavyweight chassis which in my view is rediculously over engineered
Having said that WHAT
a stunning looking car it will be when completed . Geometry will show up later when he tries to push hard on track ; very odd dimensions/angles

Stunning workman ship, but I agree its a Clyde built chassis.
Back to the seats, I have seen Tim make seats for SVA as he was having problems with off the shelf ones at the time.
make sure the bottom harness mounts are visable.

Thanks for your input guys, 12mm then, and save about £200.
