After serious consideration i'm still at a loss

Post by anton »

At the start of the build I intended to use the stylus for road use and maybe the occaional bit of track sprint work but the goal posts have moved a little. I have a fun everyday road car so i've somewhat circumvented the original idea.

My intention is now to build it for competing probably sprinting and hill climbs with some track work. Now there are some things i intend to stick with - the live axle but other things are mostly changable.

I've got a vauxhall redtop engine with a type 9 both in need of a rebuild prior to sva. The engine is good for tunning but i am concerned if i'll hinder myself with all that weight over the font end and if putting a heavy 2ltr in the front end will put me into a class where i really will be outgunned!

The engine and box owe me very little so where do i go - subscribe to the just build it and play about after sorting it out, or build it once with something else powering it?

I'm really not a ford fan so don't really like the idea of a zetec lump but if there's a strong argument for it then i'll listen to sense!
So yellow, is t right or wrong??

Well the old ford zetec , heavy it may be but it won me the class championship plus several years at 2 nd place . Only beaten by two cars over the years. A red top YES   in a westy and a V8 in a westy. Having said that I've beaten plenty of other westy's with red tops and v8's SO it's very driver influenced.
Stop messing about -- just pick one --- and come out to play

Rob. (I'll have a nice little zetec Stylus for sale later on in the summer or even spring ----- that will kick some ass with the right pilot  )
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Anton, it depends how fast you can afford to go you can get 300 horses out of a redtop but it'll cost you, or you could go down the route i'm thinking about for next winter

THis is the thing - there is the balance a 300bhp redtop whilst fun is still carrying a weight penalty - for instanvce i could spend 1.5kis and stick a bike engine in with 160bhp and loads less Kgs than my current idea.

I want to get on the road as quickly an cost effectively as possible whilst not buggering up the cars balance too much - now if the red top isn't like a lump of lead over the front end then maybe 150-180bhp out of that will be a good start and i already have the throttle bodies and dta otherwise sell the lot and pick a different motor.... - i can get audi 1.8t engines very readily for instance 225-260bhp out of the box

Difficult to klnow where to turn

Just go the whole hog and put a supercharged hyabusa with 350-370hp in there job done, only you have the answer.
Just chuck in the redtop while you make up your mind.

Or an all ali 2ltr turbocharged Nissan lump - 300bhp cheaply and relatively easily - AND it's not a Ford :D :D :D
