Engine/box in ?
Who has put their engine back in with gearbox bolted up as opposed to box then engine That's with body in situ' I've removed/refitted mine twice now and about to do it again so as I was concerned about the new shaft on the box being ok (my old one , I ground back -- too long ) I pushed it up to the engine yesterday , to check clearance --- fits fine SO thought I'd see how many of you put engine and box in together and with what snags , if any
Looks like it might be a two man job due to the complete length

angle?
May not be possible through my classic bonnet hole then . What engine's yours ; I've forgotten ?Pete&Matt wrote:we put the box and engine in bolted together, but without the shell on. We are doing a flip front so will remove it when we come to finally put it in. However, yes, its a 2 man job! it is a bit tight when getting the box in as you have to have it at quite an angle to clear the front shocks etc.

I've put the engine and box in and out through the classic bonnet as a unit a few times without much trouble.
You do need to either remove or restrain the front springs to stop the front rising.
You also need to be able to tip the engine/box configuration on the crane to as close to vertical as you can manage.
It's two man job really.
I have removed/refitted the gearbox without the engine once which was a complete bitch of a job to do and I would rather not do again.
And if I have to do it again then I'm not putting the 1600 engine back in.

box out without engine ?
Christ Tony , how the hell did you manage that then I calculated the bellhousing wouldn't come far enough off the clutch/flywheel to clear the input shaft Presume you removed prop' and slid it back OR , did you cut the gearbox mount offTonyH wrote:I've put the engine and box in and out through the classic bonnet as a unit a few times without much trouble.

Cut the Gearbox mount off?
Has anyone done this? I was tempted at the bare chassis stage to make this removeable. I thought at the time it would need reamed holes and fitted bolts to do the job properly and decided against. Now the engines in and I can see how tight things are I wish I had done it. Still possible though with a ramp or a good pit.
