I'm in the middle of building my Stylus RT at the moment.
I'm wondering if i really need to fit inner wheel arches as i am only really going to use the car on nice summer days so there won't be a great deal of water being sprayed around.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether i should or shouldn't fit them?
inner arches ?

If you mean the arches up front to seperate the engine from the wheels etc --- YES !!! most definately or you might just get a stone under the cam belt or any other belt and cause total chaos , ie --- £££££££££££££££££ Liners/arches purely to protect fibre glass isn't essential and adds weight but perhaps a good thing in a road car ? (stops stones etc hitting the body at 100mph !)

Are you using the black and orange layout of the forum here? if not just go to your profile and change it.
When you use this layout you will see a link under the window "Add image to post" and this lets you upload a picture from your harddrive and a link is automatically inserted in the post window.
hope this helps out

Thats brilliant cheers! All i've got to do now is find a digital camera.
Hope you won't think too badly of my RT. Its my first attempt at building a car and a very steep learning curve for me. I don't think its too bad though.
While i'm here, has anyone got any tips on spraying as i am attempting to spray the car myself!!!
self spraying ?

Personally I'd never attempt it , the car will look great if done well but crap if not . The result , like most jobs , comes from preparation . I did everything else but paid £1000 for the prep and spray at Middleton motors near Aldershot , he's done loads of Stylus's. Leave it as it is to pass SVA then spray when you have the money ??? just a thought !
Good luck , Rob.

Hi All
On the subject of inner arches, I went to Yeading for SVA in '03 & the fact that I didn't have them was
one of the half dozen points for SVA failure the first time round.
As Rob said, road debris rather than water is the issue.
I spoke to Tim at Stoneleigh & he mention SSC will be doing GRP inners shortly, worth a phone call.
Re: Paint finish...
I too went to Middleton's at Worplesdon nr Woking. Joe did a fantastic job on my car.
He reworked the door shutlines & edges. I'd spend 3 months faffing about with them & the hinges, & was so Pss'd off with the fit.
So for no extra cash & a few days of his xmas hols he sorted them out. Thats what I call service. The paintjob still looks good 5 yrs on.
Other comment is keep it simple.. I chose a nice plain colour, that you can get in a can or touch stick at Halfords later.
There's plenty of opportunity for battle damage repairs later, & matching fancy flip/flop metallics could be difficult !
All the best
Matt

Cheers for all your advice!
Obviously I want to pass the sva test, but if I do fail I want it to be on as few things as possible so I will definately be fitting inner arches to eliminate that problem. I will give tim a call in the near future and find out about the grp ones.
As for the painting its just a case of saving some cash now to get a professinoal looking job.
