5 inch can - will it fit???

I need a silencer with built in CAT for the SVA. Dave at Powerspeed has a Caterham one he can lend me, it's 28inch long (shouldn't be a problem) but 5 inch wide.
My car is away having bodywork done, so can anybody tell me if a 5 inch can will fit. Now I'm going to trailer the car to the SVA, so if it's very close I'm not too worried - as long as it will fit - I'll exhaust wrap it to and line the fibreglass with heat shield.
So will it fit?

yes, we are putting one in our classic. Fisher Fury can supply one at a very good price for you.
Dont wrap it though! just line the inside and make sure you can get some air in! that seems to be the general opinion

Thanks for that - he's just loaning it to me, I'll use an non-cat one afterwards for max power

ON NO ACCOUNT WRAP
Just make sure that there is no air barrier from the engine conpartment TO sill TO exit --- very important . Air flow has a much greater effect on heat in that area than any shielding
Drill very large holes in the underside of the sill and all the way down to the exit --- say 4 inches or more diameter (just an inch apart) There's room for two side by side up front .
Wrapping increases heat massively so any tiny gap you leave or age related unwrapping will get you a bonfire
Also make sure you don't have any direct contact with the chassis , such as metal fixing bracket without dolly
(fit rubber dolly with weight onto it NOT suspended under it too
)or f/glass.
I'm going on a bit but have seen peoples dreams go up in smoke

Running a non-cat system on OZ is HIGHLY ILLEGAL & the penalty if caught is mega-bucks !! I would assume it is the same in G.B.
I have a 3" in/out model that is 4" deep x 5" wide & very free-flow. Cost about A$170 & according to the "sports car oriented" supplier, will only rob 2 or 3 hp.
I'm sure its the way to go !!

Once the car has done an SVA the future testing - MOT - on a 'Q' plate is done on 'visual smoke' and the most leanient of tests - it's all above board

As the MOT is now done with a computer link to the DVLA and on registration they "should" record the emmissions from the SVA it could be tested as at the SVA, there is no guarantee that you will get away without the CAT.

Well - that's certainly not my understanding of a 'Q' plate - I know lots of people in this situation, and none have had a problem at MOT.

Have checked with an MOT tester friend of mine..
Q plates are still "age or origin indeterminate" & thus subject to the visual smoke test only.
It's there in the Testers handbook, you just have to convince them look it up.
