Curborough result

Post by stylussprinter »

No time recorded due to snapped half shaft  Shame cos I just had the results emailed to me from BARC Midland and I most probably would have beaten all bar one car --- a Westfield slicks, wings front&rear plus undertray bhp unkown :?: . However , his time was 62.9 sec's on the double lap and I've been half a second off that 3 years ago so there's a chance I might have pipped him  YOU CAN'T WIN EM ALL  Just hope the quaife £419 replacements arrive before Friday OR Goodwood next Saturday wont be on and I've paid the £119 entry fee which can't be refunded at this stage
This Goodwood event is my '' joker '' event on the ACSMC champ'p which means double points so it would be a pain to miss it

Sorry to hear that Rob.
Don't you need to machine the hub bearing housings to accept the Quaife items?
Good luck getting it back together!

If that's the case then I'm stuffed for weeks  I'm assuming I can just about pinch the shaft end with something and it will draw out(think it's broken at the flange end) ---------- if not then I'm in real trouble time wise  we'll see :|

You maybe best getting a standard half shaft as back up - just in case.
How did it snap - do you wheelspin on a damp bit and then hit a dry patch????

Too much wheel spin so changed up early and got tramping ----------------- snaaaaaap :o Had a good talk with Burton's guy before ordering while still at the track. He said they'd pop straight in --- h'mmmm  The wheel wringles as though it were a duff front wheel bearing so it's got to have busted close to the outer edge :?:

In theory it will have snapped close to the outer edge - this is because there will be more and more 'wind up' the further away from the torque source (i.e the diff). BUT that theory only pertains if there are no material floors!
Saying that, I reckon you'd be unlucky for it to break anywhere but the outer edge tho tbh.
re machining of hub bearing area - this was the case when I looked at Quiafe shafts about 7 years ago - maybe they've now managed to source a slimmer bearing to fit their enlarged shafts - or maybe they have stronger materials and have managed to reduce shaft dia to the same as Mr Ford intended.
Either way - keep us informed, I for one will be very interested to see how you get on!
