I have just applied for my SVA test via the official and comprehensive VOSA form "ministers approval certificate" (MAC). The form was fully filled in however I have just received another official form from VOSA to prove my Stylus as an amateur build as defined in the motor vehicles (approval) regulations 2001. I have to complete the form, declare the vehicle was built by myself for my own personal use, state that I have installed the engine, body,suspension,axles,transmission and steering assembly.
Then on top of this I have to provide signed copies of receipts for the kit and all major components, photographic evidence of the build in various stages and also declare the age of the engine for emmission testing purposes.
I knew about the last item regarding the engine but the others were all new to me, is this a recent addition to the SVA booking process, talk about bureaucracy gone mad!

I have not heard of this before. The SVA is for all low volume car makers & covers imports as well. These are definatly not DIY build. Perhaps they are using the photos to check the build quality that is hidden on a finished car?

Like you Kevin , I never had to provide proof of self build merely state the fact. Must be new reg's
Depending what engine you fitted , mine is zetec , if you've no photos you could get my pile copied .How would they know who's pics they were

It's been like that for several years, though SVA never applied it as not being necessary, but the UK is getting a hard time about this from european governace as a lot of non-uk cars are getting SVA'ed and exported right after they get registered and according to EU law, a car that is registered in a EU country must be allowed to be registered in any other EU country.

And especially France, Spain and a few others where it is/was absolutely impossible to register a kitcar are complaining about this and therefore these extra's for SVA.

So non-UK kits with parts documents outside uk and LHD will be very difficult to get SVA'ed in the future if not impossible. So only way would be to have very good riends in the UK and buy all major components there and keep it RHD till registered, bit extra work, but I think the only way in the future.

And for genuine UK buyers and builders it's also to avoid loss of taxes as some people buy a rolling road kit and pay officially for parts and the assembly in the pocket of the manufacturer, therefore the pictures.

With the introduction of IVA it will be even more strict.

Further to my post regarding proof of amateur build status the form SVA 1 ( march 2008) from the VOSA web site, question 9 asks what class the vehicle is, the only class which mentions kit car is class A, amateur build, that’s what I put on my form and hence the request for further proof of class A.
The only other possible answer to question 9 would be class L, vehicles built in very low volume i.e. less than 200 in 12 months, to me, this option is not applicable but I could be wrong.

Werner is right in that this something that has been in force for a while but I think there is also the fact that manufacturers have also been putting cars through the SVA claiming them to be individual builds rather than low volume manufacturers, as well as the bit about being exported straight after registration.
How are you going to deal with this Werner?

Well, mine is RHD, almost all bills are UK and named on the previous owner. So I will only have to count on one of you guys

Well, i hope to be finished by IVA is taking over, but then again I thought to be ready by now and I'm not even half way, i think

Hi ther> regards pictures of bild ...just got my car through sva , sent the pics off as they asked then about a week later they came back reg post ,,took the car for sva then the tester asked me for some pics off bild ,i told him that i had sent them with the forms and that they had sent them back 2 me ,,he said they never send any thiing on to them .i had took the pics with me so i got them out of the car and showed them to the tester man ,he hada a look and said every thing looks fine ..only took about 10 pics of diffrent stages of the bild r(any bild) and one of the dog
