Afternoon all, Does anyone have a good suggestion for wheel arch liners? I was thinking of using 3mm plastic sheet and forming it into a wheel liner shape with a hot air gun, something similar to what you get on a road car. At the front I was thinking of mounting onto the chassis as I've made the front into a flip front. At the rear I could fibreglass some mountings inside the wheel arch. If anyone has photos of what they've done that would be helpful! Cheers Pete

i didnt bother with the back, didnt know it needed anything, mines flip front, H have some very thin ali sheet riveted to the fibreglass just inside the of the front wheel, although i like your idea with the plastic, if you have the materials and skills. I would be interested to know what plastic you find to use.

Yup - 3mm ABS plastic will do the job well, I've used it on various places on my car - easy to bend with a heat gun .....

Do you think this is somthing you could negotiate with Tim to get made? When we were last there, just as he was stopping trading he was making those and had all the moulds there. We would love a set as they are a pig to make if not! Maybe if Tim supplied you with the moulds, you could produce the inner liners and sell them on with a small commision to Tim? Im sure many people on here would be intrested....

I'll bare that in mind next time Tim and I talk/meet . He may do it if there's a decent number ordered , we'll see

Having spent the day with me , Tim was talking over his plans for his own new car and the various tweeks to the body and other bits. These front arch wheel covers in the pic's were his first shot at a design. He's been working on an improved fit for the next mould. I would think that when that's done , he'd be pleased to market them to cut costs of development Obviously ' work ' slows that process and does occupy 90 % of his time seeing as it pays the bills

ok. Well if they are avalible when we need them (which wont be long!) then we will have some, if not we will have no choice but to sort our own! Probally do a similar thing as they do with the Furry!

One of the main issues is prevention of road dirt getting into the engine bay.
I realised that problem especially at the front when I built mine in 1997, but until recently I couldn't remember what I used to create my inner arches. It was thin plastic sheeting. Not moulded or anythng - just a flat piece up the back of the arch and another joined to it with an ally strip going to the front and joining up with the front body mounting flanges. It's glass fibred into the body shell, thus closing off the whole arch.
But could I remember what stuff I used?? No...

However I needed some more for the same issue at the back end of a much altered Dutton (so I've now got quite a bit left over)
Eventually thanks to the internet I finally found out again: It's PVC foamboard.


It comes in various thicknesses and colours and you can cut it with a sharp knife . It also comes in huge sheets that you can get from various suppliers around the UK. I think thay use it for sign boards and the like. It's smooth, light and waterproof.
