Heaters......

Post by Pete&Matt »

Heaters!!!

We were initially going to take a hot air take off from the manifold and blow it into the car to get some hot air, however, speaking to people who have done this, say dont bother!

So! have looked at small heaters, the smallest being one from Westfield, but its all going to be too tight in behind the dash with all the other stuff we have in there! What have you guys who run heater done? We are thinking of making up a small box with a matrix in it and using the bilge fan we already have with all the pipework and doing that as we can mount it all in the drivers side sill area. Pics would be excellent!

Cheers

i haven't done it yet but i am planning to do it soon and that is the same thing they do on some really old aircraft. they do take heat from the exhaust manifold but they make a heat exchanger to go over the pipes a bit like on the old VW beetles and campers. i know it works well on these old air cooled engines and my guess is that you can get as much heat from the exhaust pipes as you can from a cylinder head. i may even consider welding some fins on the exhaust to increase the surface area to get more heat. if you do go this route though, make sure you make it removable as you need to inspect the pipes for cracking. carbon monoxide can kill you without you even knowing its there and a crack in the pipe could do just that.
