What am I doing wrong? Have attempted to upload small jpegs, 177kb or so, however, the upload time takes for ever and then fails saying 'cr2 extensions' not allowed.

Not sure what cr2 's are
sounds like a Werner question
Send him a pm -- On occasions mine has popped up saying '' file too large '' but not seen the cr2 message

According to google, cr2 extensions are a canon raw image format, so potentially not a valid jpeg.
Did you use a canon camera ??
You might need to convert them first, or save as a bitmap BMP file, then convert that back to JPG.

You may need to make them a smaller size, our forum has a size limit on them. It may be easier to put them up on photo bucket and then to get the clickable links for them and then past that on the message you are posting.

Hello George
Glad your PC isn't frozen/snowed up like your back yard
We're in training down here for Scottish winters --- pass the salt please
