888's

Bought a pair of new Toyo 888s from Camskill a week or two back, plus I already had a scrubbed pair from Rob to match.

Wanted to get them on the car ready for the autosolo next weekend.
So.. Went down to my mates garage business on Sat morning & used their tyre machine.

Had the first 2010 blat early yesterday morning to bed them in (wife not impressed, as it was her birthday !)
And used the car to travel the 40 miles to work today.

I have to say the dry grip they give is pretty awesome... should have tried them ages ago.
Sunday am in the damp is another story... they are like cut slicks, so care needed on the wet bits.

Overall bloody good, & great to get rid of the winter cobwebs.
Just need to remember the Stylus needs a bit of RESPECT, or she'll put you in your place

Got some more front arch & headlight bowl chopping to do, going from 195 to 205 width fronts makes a difference !

Cheers
Matt

I've been telling you aye :?: Knew you'd be impressed but hope you put the scrubbed pair up front for max safety into your first corner in anger next week :?:

i love em, but just seen a thread by Phil on the locost site saying that they are going up in price a lot. Shame as they dont last long when they spin in 3rd gear in the dry

Don't spin them then -- feeding is faster  I've had a set of medium for 2 seasons which Matt has now and there's still 4mm's left . The soft that are on now have been there for 3 seasons , granted they haven't had many events
They are getting naughty with the price though at around 50% increase from 2 yrs back

Just organised a new set of R888's 15x50x205 fitted locally at £109 plus vat a piece --- there goes another £513 to add to my invoice folder since 1999 , well 1997 actually  They will be green and slippery for Brands in their new state but no where to heat cylcle and scrub them before the 12th Sept.
There's life in the existing set still at around 3mm's but new one's will deal with the wet better :P

Contacted Alan Meaker/TOYO Motorsport first to beg for discount , citing my championship standing and awards in 2010 . Didn't count unless I was contesting the MIDLAND SPEED Series and another I've forgotten. Worth an ' ask ' though , I was discounted a few years back when serious about the ACSMC championship through Guildford Tyres  If you don't ask you don't get  and I still got less than trade fitted at ADAMS & PAGE HIGH WYCOMBE :P

I don't like the feel of 60 profile plus I get a bigger footprint on the 15's --- It's the first thing I changed after my first sprint plus a spring change in 2001 from the 14 x 6 x 185 and potty 130 & 180 lbs springs. Personally I prefer a stiff set-up and 60's flex more . Only advantage I admit would have been weight/rotational

Stuart , at ADAMS and PAGE , fitted/balanced the tyres today plus discounted me a shade more than he quoted me on the phone , at £500 the 4 tyres :P

They seemed quite specialised looking around at other tyres being fitted . Michelin wets on some IMAGE 3 piece wheels that fit with one huge nut plus many sizes of R888'S and YOKO AO48R'S.
