UJ to rack bolt ?
Just checking the Stylus camber and generally looking for trouble ---- there's a little slack in the steering again and have recently fitted a new rack and ally mounts . Then I noticed the slack is in the UJ to rack spindle even though the threaded bolt is right up tight The UJ is threaded right through so I hadn't put a nyloc on the other end .Seeing as the body of the UJ is split it's obviously intended to close a little . Wondering if I got the right rack ie spindle diam or spline wise What have you guys used and is there any play once tightened up
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Re: UJ to rack bolt ?
hi Rob,
There is no play in the joint when the bolt is tight. From memory the splines go together only one
way, with a few of the splines on the male part blanked off and located in the corresponding female part.
Well done at Goodwood.

This morning I have realised my error regarding the UJ to spline bolting . When I built the car in 1999 I must have put it together correctly by chance then changing the rack this season I changed the bolt too . Noticing the UJ was threaded I assumed it was threaded right through so just put a bolt in --- no nut . Having looked with a torch and mirror I now see that half has no thread . So put another new bolt in from the threaded end ( it then passes through the other half of non threaded ) then plonked on a spring washer plus nyloc for good luck and clamped it up very tight --- that closed the slot a little in the UJ and all is now totally secure . It wouldn't clamp up by putting the bolt in from the non threaded end and tightening it to pull the threaded end up tight ------- took me a while for that to dawn on me though
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !
