Hello everyone

Hi all,

I've just bought Alec Martin's old car - the bright orange Stylus RT. The seller was a thoroughly decent chap who was really just trying his luck with the asking price and quite happy to talk sensible numbers. Very happy with the car and had a cracking drive back home today despite the wipers deciding they'd turn themselves on randomly for about 15 minutes. Loose wire somewhere I expect.

There's no wet weather gear with the car at all currently so I'm very interested if anyone's got a hood (full or half) knocking around which they don't use. Even just a hood rail to buy or copy is of interest. To be honest, if anyone's got any good photos of a rail it'd do for making something similar up, just so I know what it's supposed to resemble!

Final priority is getting rid of the Wanli tyres... Wanlis... seriously? *shakes head in despair* I may change the wheels altogether as I'm kinda undecided on those, and the spoiler too - not convinced it'll have much affect on anything other than my fuel consumption.

If anyone's going to Classics on the Common in Harpenden next month give me a shout as it's my local show and I'll almost definitely be there!

Joe

Joe , I'm not far from you at Aston Clinton . Come and tyre kick and I'll show you a hood rail amongst other things

Good to meet you Joe plus other half last night and glad to here the car handled better on your way home --- couldn't do a lot in the time but every little helps  The car certainly looked smart as I remembered it too . Have fun :P

Thanks Rob - miles better already, with far less crashing over bumps. Will be adjusting them softer still as you recommended as soon as I get a chance. Was great to meet you and have a nose around your car too!

Joseph , as you have an RT not a classic , could you let me know whether the rear wheel spacers are simply ' fat washers ' plus longer studs or a spacer with a flange( like the standard halfshaft ) to locate the wheel centre on :?:

Will do, Rob. Hopefully be able to get a look on Sunday - busy week this week.

Wheel spacers - proper bolt-on hubcentric ones, 45mm thick. A couple of blurry phone photos attached for good measure.

Thanks Joe , yours look very sound . The spacer fits tight over the hub centre which locates and takes the weight of the wheel PLUS the spacer has it's own hubcentric protrusion to take the wheel centre .

Having Quaife two piece shafts as I do means there's no hubcentric hub to take wheel weight ----- only the bolts but it's been that way for several years
