Rolling Road Session

Post by CMA »

Knowing my 1660 Xflow on R1 Bike carbs with BCF2 cam was not running as well as it should I booked it into Torque Tune near Mansfield, being a RR virgin it was all new to me.

Started off with 62hp at 6000rpm  I knew it was running crap but didn't realise how crap.

He had a fiddle with the mix, balanced them carbs up and it started running nice and smooth.

This turned it up to 82bhp at 6000rpm

And then it broke 2 of the 3 exhaust mounting points  so out with the cable ties to hold it off the rollers.

He then blocked the air corrector jet and made a smaller hole (0.4mm I think) this then gave it 98 at 5500rpm

He then decided to check the timing as I had no idea what it was set at. And it turns out it was set at Zero Degrees!! So he looked up the max advance and decided to set it to 33deg

Then he did another run and got 102bhp at 6000rpm at the wheels. He said this equates to about 127bhp at the fly wheel  (I know thats not alot compared to the rest of you but I was impressed)

So all in all he worked his magic, he did say it was one of the best Xflows he's seen for a while and it seemd to be mechanically excellent.

Took it for a short run up the back lane and it was wheel spining in the first 3 gears, completely different car! Shame I didnt spot a speed hump and hit it at about 40mph So I can now vouch the car flys and lands quite well too

On the drive home it was great, like driving a new car, smooth and clean. Can't wait to get it on a track now. Just missed out on a cheapo day at the RAF Barkston Heath Sprint circuit due to holidays :(

Had it back on the same rollers again a couple of weeks ago to sort out some carb spitting.

Original 102BHP at the wheels.

Mods made since original run:
Side exit exhaust and custom manifold to match.

New result: 110bhp at the wheels.

So the new exhaust has made me an extra 8bhp, not a bad result for a change I made for practical reasons not performance.

Not bad for an old 1.6 Crossflow :)

That's what you'd expect from a proper balanced primaries manifold and straight through exhaust , 6 to 12 bhp depending on the engine starting point . Mine gained 10bhp after the manifold was made .
So now you'll be at Prescott way faster than you thought  Stay over at Dave H etc
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !
