Pics of a fitted ARB

Post by Nissanman »

Thought these might be useful. As we we're fitting the new rad we thought we'd tacke the ARB. First problem we had was we had moved one fo the diagnal bottom chassis rails so we had to add a new one in from the mounting hole. We then discovered we could not use the furthest of the three holes on the arb bar as it fouled both the engine on one side and the alternator on the other, so we've used the middle hole and cut the ends off for extra clearance.

Apart from that it all went on fine. We didn't have to use cap head bolts of the tops of the springs, just wedged a large screwdriver down the side when we tightened it.

I jumped up and down with all 13 stone and couldn't make the arb arms hit the bottom rails, so I thing all is ok.

Do bare in mind that using the middle hole on a 16mm ARB will mean you have a VERY stiff set-up . So don't go too heavy on your spring lbs
I run a 13mm ARB with 285lbs springs/front . Bump setting 7 to 9 on my 24 setting shocks .
Possibly 225lbs will be adequate ----- careful in the wet

I never did use my middle hole on the 13mm bar
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Would I be better with a thinner bar then, If I know what size to get and if it's regular steel I can make one up myself? As I can't get to the end holes on the bar supplied? No idea what the front springs are, but they bounce up and down very easily :)

No , I'd run it first to see how it handles. If they're that soft you'll probably be fine. The Nissan must be very far forward compared to the zetec --- the bellhousing perhaps sites it further forward :?:

At least you wont get much roll even though the springs are soft which means better rear traction in cornering 8)

Sounds all right then, and yes, the Nissan is a bit further forward, the bell housing is huge (big strong clutch and box !) had to widen the tunnel to make it fit.

I'll give it a try, thanks Rob as usual :)
