IOW Car Club autosolo

Post by josephmoore »

Did round 1 of the local club autosolo today. Freezing cold but good fun. First time doing something like that and easily the slowest in the "specials" class, but ran 61, 51, 49, 48, 47 and finally a 46.88 - all clean runs and times heading in the right direction so happy with that. A very tight course in places, especially the first corner! Here's a vid from one of the runs which gets most of it except where the camera forgot where the course went!

Cheers Rob, will do 8)

I found my problems were, in this order...

1) Lack of driver talent
2) 1st was too short for some legs but there wasn't enough time to get into second
3) Elbows everywhere in the corners with the standard 3.8 steering rack (2.9 rack to go on when I get round to it)

Here are the full results. I'm a good 4 seconds off where I'd hope to be, but happy that my times were coming down each run with added confidence.

Yes --- but that an ' old ' Mini with someone at the wheel who's done plenty before , you're not likely to beat that guy regardless of experience , unless of course it's at a sprint -- then you'll kill him stone dead :!: , those little beasts are just built for the job :P

Yeah, the guy's been racing competitively since before I was born and it's an rather... modified, shall we say... Mini pick-up. That was one of the good things about the day - there really was a whole range of cars and experience going round the course.

Going to set up a little camera for the next one as the few clips I have of me driving have been really useful in seeing where I could improve. Things always feel different in the car to how they look from the outside too.
