Eelmoor Sprint Oct 6th 2013 ----- just entered via the website today.
I've been contemplating using lighter 13in wheels for some time now but not in time for 2013 events . I'll lose a little top end mph but it'll get to the redline quicker , hopefully corner quicker too . So basically spend more time along the straights at it's 8000rpm max , albeit lower max BUT ultimately quicker lap time. We'll see !
At approximately 570 kgs rather than it's present 600 kgs , accelleration will be sharper once fitted with Carl Austin's ForceRacingWheels . They won't be the very lightest due to rim and offset requirements but should be close on 3.5 kgs a piece plus much lighter 55 profile Avon Tyres .

MattD has just informed me that the Eelmoor course will be run in the reverse direction this year , apparently to avoid the several incidents that have occured over the last three years . (involving trees )
That means , of course , that PB's can't be compared with any previous times
So far the entries in my class are two METRO 6R4's , one with the usual V6 2.8lt engine , another with a V8 3.5lt engine -------------------- hope it stays dry or I'm up for being beaten

I'll be looking out fpr those the moment I leave the startline seeing as it's being run in reverse direction this season So the start is with the main forestry on your ' right ' (old finish) then a dogleg ' left - right ' onto what used to be the return straight . All the far end fast bits now have YOU the driver on the inside of the corner, so you'll have to remember to place the car properly

The offending tree was at the end of a 3rd gear 8000rpm dash before braking to turn in BUT because the course has been reversed this year , I'll be in 1st gear on a feather approaching it

The reverse direction EELMOOR course totally threw me , not quite getting what gear to be in nor any lift off/braking point spot on . Entering the top corner with an exit looking at a dozen 2ft wide fir trees , just when you should be absolutely on it , didn't inspire confidence . VERDICT --- didn't like it at all .
Result was not too bad but still behind my best ever 2005 time going the ' old ' route around the course . Actually 0.6sec off at todays best of 54.8sec's . The two METRO 6R4's were right on my pace from the start , although I learned later that the one that beat me by 0.47sec had changed his gearbox drop gear from 1.5 to 1.3 for this event ---- it certainly worked because I've beaten him over the past 10 years at this event.
Ended up 6th overall , 2nd in class and got the '' best FDMC member '' award which was nice , the third time I've had it since 2002 .
Still got a big problem of steering wheel shake under heavy braking -- tried many things but not found the cause yet.

Since getting back from Eelmoor the Stylus doesn't want to start -- plenty of power to whiz it around , just doesn't attempt to fire . Anyway it's in the shed today after sitting on the lawn since Monday after pushing it off the trailer. I'll sort that later , meantime I decided to remove and strip the brake calipers but to start with just removed pads then pumped the brake pedal to check pistons being ' free ' to move . Two were good , one a bit slower and one not moving more than 1mm or so.
After extending them all right out using wood blocks to hold the easy moving ones , I cleaned the piston sides with brake cleaner then pushed them back in and extended again several times. Pads sand papered a little then all back together ---- hopefully this is the cause of the steering wheel judder under heavy braking . NOT being a road car there's no way to know until it gets on track again

Could be Rob, I had a motorbike with six piston calipers notorious for sticking pistons and boy that used to shake its head a bit when you grabbed a handful of brake. that's when you new a service was due. or new seal kits and that was a pain to do properly.
I have some fluid that we soaked the seals in for a few hours then put them in the calipers with rubber grease push the pistons in leaving of any outer seals then put them in a nice warm oven to bake the seals in place for can't remember now think it was 6 hours,
worked a treat till winter had done its thing
