Roll-bar
I don't have a roll bar yet and was looking at the picture of Roo4 I was wandering if it's still possible to add the roll bar when the car is finished, or should I get one up front and mount it before the body?

Re: Roll-bar
Werner , it's definately easier to pre - mount the bar before fitting the body because you have the classic Stylus which has slightly different mounting to the latest bar design . It has side plates to be welded or bolted to the 2'' x 1'' chassis rail that arches over the boot area. If you bolt it , remember to fit pinch tubes through the rail fitted JUST flush , to stop the rail crushing. I welded mine , long after the car was built so at least you know it is possible Personally , I'd remove it while you fit the body once you've bolted/welded ? the plates and drilled any holes needed . All chassis rails drilled need pinch tubes ; it does tell you that in the manual but you bought yours part built so probably don't have one.Werner Van Loock wrote:I don't have a roll bar yet and was looking at the picture of Roo4 I was wandering if it's still possible to add the roll bar when the car is finished, or should I get one up front and mount it before the body?
Be careful fitting the body because even with help it's easy to crack. From memory , I think I hooked it over the nose end first , pulled it back as far as possible then pushed it over the tail end. Three of us did it -- one up front then two at the rear sides
Before you order a bar , don't forget to put the seat in temporarily -- sit in it and get someone to measure from the chassis rail at the top of the seat pan to at least 6 inches above your head. You're tall so no bar will be correct for everyone , i.e. standard bar If you ever take the Stylus onto a track you will have a helmet which will be at least 2 inches over your head. The MSA safety rules then say the bar must be 50mm above the helmet --- HENCE my 6 inches
So many guys have fitted bars then had to change them for safety -- afterall if you turn the car over and your head's above the bar
Rob.(trying to save you hastle )

To fit the bare to my cahssis which is old I hade to weld in some extra plates to suit the new bar see picture.
Tim supplied some sketches of what I needed to make and where it went.
It was straight forward Apart from chassis is slightly wider than todays, so I had to reweld the bar mount.

old ?
Your chassis is number 5 ? so obviously it's one of Jeremy Phillips's chassis . Revel Coles being the first SSC chassis number 9 .Any after that were made by Neville Powell and eventually the ' Yorkshire guy ' and now in house . These will not need that step up as on yours ROO4 but will need a side plate each side (as explained to Werner). I think the reason for that step up is that the first Stylus's built by JP were Fury chassis.
