Tunbidge Wells motor club Goodwood sprint 23rd Sept

Post by stylussprinter »

I'll be competing at Goodwood on the 23rd Sept , my last event at the circuit this year . Then Debden sprint Oct 1st and Eelmoor after that on the 8th Oct .
Sadly the ACSMC changed the class regs for this season which allowed a BMW MINI Cooper supercharged into class A4 road going 2000cc max . Previously it would have been in A5 , due to the 40% added capacity rule for the charger ie. 2300cc not 1600cc. I would have stood half a chance of 1st in the ACSMC Champ'p otherwise but 2nd will be the best hope with this guy in our class.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

I'm really annoyed I missed you at the Brighton and Hove sprint earlier. I'll definitely be coming to watch and have a chat this time.

Actually , if you're not too far away from Goodwood , I could do with a little help on the day as my son isn't able to right now , over worked and not feeling great either . I'll be there unloading by 7-00am ish .

It was the KOP HILL CLIMB this weekend and my first run was great , a chance to sus out the very steep left right turns and sudden changes in gradient . On the second it was not as planned ie. I'd wanted to really nail it . Sadly after a great start from 1st , 2nd then 3rd at close to 7000rpm (rev cut is 7000) , there was a really loud massive multiple backfire then the engine died . Checked a few obvious things then came to the conclusion that the dizzy drive might be sheared , so got it home then tomorrow after getting number 1 to TDC , I'll remove the dizzy for a peep
SO -- if I can't sort it by Thursday/Friday then I can't compete at Goodwood which will negate any ambitions I had for a good championship result again . We'll see anyway , at the moment it's still in the drive sheeted over to deter thieves because I can't push it through past my house into the shed , via the lawn on my own. If I can't make it I'll post here again ok

Dizzy drive isn't sheared , the clamping nut was loose , even with it's spring washer , so the dizzy wasn't properly engaged and one of the O rings had slid upto the top against the clamp so wasn't engaged by it's full 5mm's . So new O rings fitted with silicon gel , just waiting for the new rotor arm via CA in the morning .Hopefully that's the only problem and I'll be at Goodwood Saturday .

You couldn't make this up ---- apparently our village road works with subsequent diversions confused the Post Office , hence yesterday's post delivered just now . All fitted and timed up , running sweetly now :P

Haven't competed in the Stylus since April 2016 , due to even more bloody stupid safety regs changes . If I'd just built the Stylus and starting to compete the 1st or 2nd season , I'd just do the upgrade but you have to understand it cost me £16,000 to build , then continued to develop and upgrade the engine , also many upgrades and suspension redesign and build -- that now totals well over £40,000 inc the build .
When the MSA made changes in 2012 , 14 , then 16 , I simply couldn't keep throwing money at it , particularly in view of championship class changes that allowed Radicals and other beasts into sports libre . I'd been 1st in class 6 yrs on the trot in that class then suddenly was totally uncompetitive by 12 secs a lap
Hence buying the classic Alfa which I've also developed BUT it will likely pay me back one day , when I'm not capable of competing --- where as the Stylus can only ever lose me money . It's highly developed and bloody quick but would never pay me what it owes me . £20,000 would still be painful plus would only suit a competitor who wants to win out of the box , without the time or cash to develop the car.
So she's just sitting there , getting engine run twice a month and an occasional trackday , sad really
