Rear Suspension Set Up

Post by kevp »

Iv only done a few miles in the Stylus (not SVAd yet).
But the rear body work rubbs on the tyres under cornering.

Is this because - springs wrong stength, body to low/to heavy at rear or suspension to tight ?
Or none of the above.

Thanks Kev

rubbing?

Post by stylussprinter »

I could list any number of reasons Kevin but none would be relevant without all the information and 'sight' of your car --- however :-

Rubbing arch edge OR inner arch/body ? If it's rubbing the inner arch body , assuming the car has all the right bits and set up correctly , it's likely either the body's on off line or the panhard rod's loose or bent. If it's rubbing the arch edge then it's either incorrect wheel offset / tyre size / or shock/spring length and or adjustment. What do you weigh ? Was this experience with passenger/what weight ? What spring lengths/weights do you have? What shock lengths have you.?
See you on the 16th

This is why you can't really diagnose at arms length i.e. not looking at the car. Rob. :?
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Spring Size

Post by kevp »

As posted last week I have discovered my problem is from springs that are to soft. Can anyone advise me of the correct ID for ordering replacemants. ( Its a work up to drag the car & trailer out of the garage to look myself).
Cheers

spring ID

They'll be 2.25 and depending on many things , set up , driver weight/passenger , wheel & tyre size etc , you shouldn't run less than 180lbs . I'm 12st and run 250lbs not that you should do that but it gives you an idea of the tolerance.

Thanks Rob.

The rear of the car bobs up & down when even the cat jumps on the boot. (Ok may be an exageration). I was thinking of doing the front to rear swap by upgrading the fronts. Maybe to 225 - 250 Lbs.
Have not received a reply form Tim about suspension upgrades - want to order anti roll bar at least.

Thanks Kev

Good move , you'll like the 225 or 250 front end , it'll stop diagonal weight transfer into corners . So if your fronts were 180 or 200 they would be fine on the rear. Try to set the wedge(front/rear height difference) around 25ml for passengers and 20ml just driver. That's just a starting point then when you extend your track driving limit and discover oversteer --- drop it 5 ml until you're happy with the balance. FRONT measured under centre front lower chassis. REAR measured under chassis rail at the front of the drivers seat.(front of seat pan)

Finer points can be sorted out on the track.
Rob.(set your anti rollbar at the lightest setting with that spring format)
