Flip Front

To all with a flip front, have any of you needed to cut away the lower valance to allow the the front to flip-up properly as mine will only flip halfway, it catches on the tyres

I didn't have an issue with mine, before i took the front off completely. Although i'm not really sure that i have a 'real' flip front!!

i did have an issue with mine. exact same problem!

what i found was easiest was to modify the front subframe slightly to drop the position of the hinge right down to the bottom of the body.

i did this by extending the top 2 tubes of the subframe and keeping the bottom ones at the same length. thus lowering the hinge point.

it does take a bit of fiddling but when its done, it'll open right up.

what size wheels have you got by the way?

if you want some pic's i'll try and get some on here. there may even be some on my build photo's if you check but i'm not sure.

I'm glad its not just me then, wheels are 15" with 205-55s although iv'e just ordered a set of R888s which are 195-50s and will be 31mm smaller diameter but won't make that much difference to the front opening up, so today i will investigate modding the subframe in between getting covered in fibreglass, oh joy

another thing with the suggestion above, as you will of already lined your body up, when you lower the hinge, make sure it still all lines up and measure the distance between the old holes and the new ones. they should be exactly the same on both sides if you modify the subframe by equal amounts on both sides too!

I had this problem with mine and as my oil filter assembly is mounted on the front frame I did not want to start moding it so I have rebonded my front back on also I don't think the lines looked right on the classic compared to the RT (just my opinion). But having the front of during the build was well worth it and if building another one would mount the body and cut and rebond later as this made the build a lot easier.

I didn’t have any problems but then I modified my front frame in much the same way Alex suggests because I was worried about the front not flipping far enough without hitting the frame otherwise – looks like it was a good move Incidentally to anyone else planning on doing a flip front I made up my frame and fitted it before I cut the front in the hope it would all line up a bit better – it worked but; after wheeling the car out of the garage and looking at it from a distance I noticed the front was a bit cockeyed – looking at pictures taken before the cut it was already like that I think it has probably drooped whilst sat in the previous owners garage for 10 years –probably with a box of stuff on one side still a bit of work on the front frame should have it looking straight again.
