sold :D ....just hope there is space to keep my V8 while I finish it :? Busy moving a shed and knocking a hole through the back of the garage, with little time to do it. Loads of car boot sales planned to raise the dosh to go approx 250 bhp 2.3 duratec after all. Can't wait to get started...or rather....can't wait to get it finished... madmaninshed moves shed and ends up as madmanincarport.... not the same ring to it somehow

Hi Rob, I contacted Dunnell over a week ago at Tim's suggestion. They were very helpful, but so far no prices. Robspeed Racing engines were very friendly and helpful too. Scholar replied with prices straight away. I'm not yet entirely sure of everything that is needed, which spec of 5 speed box and whether to go for dry sump, oil cooler etc.....doubt if it will need the last two...

I rebuilt the top end of my Vitesse V8, and enjoyed doing it, so could be tempted to buy a 2.3 stateside + new pistons and components, but then I would be completely out of my depth. A new 2.3 @ circa 250 bhp will cost about £6k - £7k including VAT from the look of it. Tim's 205 bhp 2.0 looks very good value at £4.5k including Webcon (but I want something a bit quicker). I have a DTA ECU with the part built kit, so that could save a bit.

Why does money have to compromise everything!!!! I'm really going for it full tilt this time, and any suggestions would be most welcome. I would like to order everything I can from Tim, who has been great. (I wanted to buy a new IRS kit from him, but funds just didn't allow and he was very understanding).

I live quite close to both Scholar and would certainly recomend them, I have always found that they are prepared to spend time and give advice and options.

I was looking to buy that car

Good luck with the build.

Sorry Keith  Thanks for the comments about Scholar...you mentioned "both" in your post. Is there another company near you too?

He's refering to Dunnell engines , literally just down the road from Stowmarket as is Scholar. Paul Dunnell's reputation for the best torque curve though is well proven in my zetec ! If you are going to track it , with the torque a 2.3 will have at that bhp , I would dry sump it. Mainly because you will be cornering at very high '' G's '' ----- belt and braces saves crying when it runs short of oil !!!! Gearbox wise , well a Quaife PRO would be strong enough or ELITE if they'll say it can take the torque. It's torque that kills box's. Ford T5 would also be strong. Take advice from your engine supplier once you're fixed on one.

Yes sorry it is Dunnell.
My experience of them though was not the best.
I was putting a Zetec in my Tiger and unless I wanted to put all of their kit in it, ECU, TBs etc. they were not going to be very helpful. At the time the Dunnell ECU was not reprogrammable so unless you took it back to them you could not get it set up for your car. I don't know if it's still the same.
One other thing I didn't like was the way they slagged off their competitors.

Thanks Keith, that's interesting. So between the two, from your experience Scholar would be a good choice.
