Before you go too far have you checked for end float on the pinion? This can be caused by ware in the bearings but also by the collapsible spacer being crushed further - this tends to happen with high power cars; the power try’s to push the pinion away from the crown wheel. Specialists can install the pinion then disassemble and measure the crushed spacer, machine up a solid replacement and reassemble it again. I think there is a figure for backlash in the Haynes manual I have – 3 thou rings a bell, if you want I’ll check when I get home, mind you it’s probably a maximum permissible figure as there are no details on actually rebuilding the diff in there.
Cheers
Matt

Re: Quaife ATB
Well, its been a long time coming, but finally got to a track yesterday - first time since fitting the Quiaffe ATB.
The difference between that and open diff is unreal!
I can now slide/drift the car through the apexs with total control - nothing like before!
Car is so much more confidence inspiring and ultimately quicker, a lot of people asked me what it was and what engine it had as I was getting past nearly everything! Even managed to match a supercharged atom lap for lap (although to be fair, it was only his 2nd track event)
Basically what I'm saying is - if you haven't already splashed out £425 on a Quaiffe unit...................what the hell are you waiting for!?
Best mod ever (£ for £)

Absolutely now you can play around looking for more grip via ' wedge ' lessening untill you reach an understeer level you're not comfortable with Check the trye temp's across the tread if you can then you'll now if you're running too much or little cambernorma wrote:Well, its been a long time coming, but finally got to a track yesterday - first time since fitting the Quiaffe ATB.

I was playing with front/rear balance using the adjusters on the shocks, they seem to have the same effect - stiffer fronts increase understeer too..

So do many things but I was trying to keep it simple and wedge is the fundamental one . TYRES size & pressure THEN bump - front to rear.norma wrote:I was playing with front/rear balance using the adjusters on the shocks, they seem to have the same effect - stiffer fronts increase understeer too..
If the wedge is right , start with 1/3rd shock clicks front ---- 2/3rds shock clicks rear.
