from stylus to RT

Post by 02GF74 »

Unless someone corrects me there are two body kits - the "regular" stylus and the more aggresive (If that is the right word) RT.

What is involved in re-bodying from the regular to RT?

Is the body a bolt on/off affair or attached by more permanent means?

Will both fit the same chassis - I understand the RT has wider front track so presumably longer wishbones need to be fitted?

What about rear end? (with escort live axle)

Are the RT bodies still avaialble?

And other parts needed for the conversion available?

If you want to convert a Classic to RT there was a kit available to convert to the RT this did not involve replacing the whole body, whether it included the suspension mods I don't know.

Look at the post by Plasticfantastic... shows the bodywork changes required, & how the bodykit is fitted.
& NO its not a simple bolt ON/OFF job, the main tub is bonded to the chassis. Its a messy fibreglass/filler job.
This is now Phil's car (Cerberus).

To my knowledge Tim never had a complete RT body made (it would have needed new moulds), so was always an aftermarket conversion.
I think most were converted as new by SSC before delivery & supplied as rolling chassis with the converted body attached.

With Tim not trading at present, you'd find it pretty difficult to get the conversion kit GRP parts, & then you'll need the modified rockers & wishbones for the front end. Probably could use the STD classic items & modify/use as a pattern.

I'm having a similar thought process myself, just waiting to see how long it takes for Rob's front body/flip to arrive.
Starting with a completed/painted Classic, will mean you'll also need to factor in a new respray too.

Yes , just as Matt says , it's a kit of body parts --- 4 wings/arches plus sills but having seen one in Tim's/SSC workshop being done , it's nowhere near the scary job you might think --- offer up/tape or glue/mark then cut your marks and f/glass into position . Regarding supply , as it's not ''work'' for Tim , rather a mark up for Duffey using SSC moulds , I'm fairly sure you could get them ----- merely a matter of the timescale  :?:
Like I said in another post on this forum , he's not interested in hours on the phone chatting because he has another more profitable business to run , HOWEVER if you wrote to his address with a genuine sale enquiry/order , leaving your telephone number/email --- personally I think he'll respond

He's intending to supply me with a part body , once he knew I was in trouble and would place an order not just enquire --- which is what got him down along with nil kit sales .
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

^^^ thx - that is most helpful.

It is more scary and more work than just removal and fitting of new panels - lots of filler and sanding involved .... nice .....

well, I learnt something new today then. I had assumed they were separate moulds.

on a similar but different subject, do we know if any/many of the fully independent rear end chassis got made/sold?

Two made for certain , possibly a third  One exported plus Tim has one chassis in house along with two other live axle chassis , one complete , one not finished. Hence my hint last year that chassis could be available , should anyone want to build  Plus of course , all the jigs for live and SSC independant chassis/suspension are still sitting in his workshop

not many then, so not a hugely tested solution!
yep, I saw your hint, and filed it - I need to have a rummage down the back of the sofa, and somehow convince myself that more cars is a good idea
I get the impression that the current feeling is that Tim will do stuff as long as you waft the cash under his nose, which is understandable, but it's a leap for someone who doesn't already have a Stylus.
