Which Ford , or other mount , did you all use to support your T9 Sierra box I'm going to change mine if I can find a ' mount ' that's less soft than the existing mount/original P.Powell part . Not certain that this is correct but it was supposed to be from the Escort Ghia Auto box I've considered solid mounting it seeing as the engine mounts are flexible
Photos would be handy

Re: Gearbox mount
hi rob!
seem to remember tim saying something about it being an escort mount. can't remember the bit about being automatic though so possibly. if you solid mount it, will this cause undue stress to the plate on the chassis? i'll have a look around and see what i can find. is your old one broken under the hammering it gets then or is it just being changed just in case?

Re: Gearbox mount
i'm doing the opposite, I have solid mounted my engine but rubber mounted the gearbox. The rx7 gearbox has a bracket with a downward facing hole in it just in front of the prop shaft exit. I used a BMW rubber engine mount which is very similar to a Zetec engine mount, just round rubber with a stud in each end. 1 stud goes through the whole in the bracket and the other goes down through a hole in a piece of steel thats bolted across the tunnel flat at the bottom of the car under the bracket. This is basically the same set up that the rx7 has so i copied and it works very well for me.
why do you want to change what You have? is it too much movement? you could try using a poly bush type if the rubber one is moving too much.

Re: Gearbox mount
Yes , solid's probably asking for trouble which is why I've not done it . The existing mount is very soft and was from new . The problem is that with my level of lowering and the tunnell not being parallel sides , when you corner flat in 5th through Fordwater for instance , the prop' will momentarily touch the vertical 25mm tube in the tunnell .You can adjust it away and I have but this compromises my set-up . Even with my spring lbs and shock settings there is still massive pressure in these circumstances for the car to go straight ahead rather than get through that bend --- the noise is bloody scarry and it's tempting to lift but that's against my '' religion '' It's not something new , it always happens when I'm getting serious (looking like being 2nd )alecmartin19 wrote:hi rob!

If I can't find a mount that's the right height and stiffer then I'll remove it , wash it and fill the rubber gap with SIKAFLEX .That will stiffen it some .

Re: Gearbox mount
Yes , polybush would be great but got to find one first --- height etc . The one that's on there can be moved with your hand --- if it gave way there'd be all hell let loose in a flat out situationAntnicuk wrote:i'm doing the opposite, I have solid mounted my engine but rubber mounted the gearbox. Re: Gearbox mount
Rob,
From what I remember the Escort mount has two lumps of rubber at an angle with a gap in the middle? If thats what you've got you'll find the Seria mount a lot stiffer. I've got one you can have to try but I won't be able to post till the weekend - but I think there only about £8 new. You may have to drill some new holes but otherwise I think it should fit - the one I've got was fiited to mine when I bought it.

Re: Gearbox mount
my cousin has just bought orange poly engine mount set for his fury with a 2.0 vaux engine. Post of a picture of your mount with some measurements and I will keep an eye out. We have a lot of odd bushes and mounts from various projects on the go.

Re: Gearbox mount
Thanks Matt and Tony I'll have to get it out and have a proper look at it . From memory , it's a metal ' cup ' with bolt vertically which itself is rubber moulded into a larger metal ' cup ' for want of a better expression . This larger one has holes each end which just simply bolt straight onto the Stylus flat steel tunnell support. Well it is 1997 since I bolted it in
