Stylus rt
Stylus rt
Hi Guys, I'm seriously thinking of moving from a TVR to a stylus rt, How would one compare to a standard griff 500? which i've owned before and, although i enjoyed it, it felt it was lacking in power, handling and braking (which are all fixable but at a cost) and as i dont want to spend 15-20k on another one, followed by 10k sorting it out, and still not be happy, i have started to look at the stylus which is a pretty little car. i don't want to build one myself as i don't have the room, so what do i look for? what engine/axle setup etc? it would be a second car/toy and i would like to track it. any help would be appreciated.
Do you guys have a regular meet as it would be good meet you a have a chat and look at some cars.
Thanks in advance
Phil

Phil, I used to have a Chimera (only the 4l). Loved it. The torque & power - ahh how I miss it.
I could have used it more than I did - if only it would start. If only I could afford the bills.
The Stylus will not have the power but will be nimbler. Takes up less space in the garage with the same size grin. And you can afford to use it & abuse it.
You can of course fit the V8 engine (ther are a few kit cars with TVR units in them) but I believe their is a trade off on weight & handling - so personal preferance. Tim has refined the cars to run with the Zetec/Duratec engines this should be the correct overal package.
I am suprised you state the Griff was not very powerful & the brakes not to good. Did you have the handbrake on all the time? Perhaps you had your foot on both pedals? (kidding). Let me know which car is yours and I'll make sure I move over on track days.
Have fun & see you around.

I could rave on about the Stylus for ever but the best way to assess is to get in one . I only have 200bhp but seldom get beaten on sprints by TVR's , it would be stupid to say it's quicker with TVR's having so much torque but corners have to be got round !
Depending where you are , plenty of us would talk your head off !
Rob. (they put this one to start in front of me but was only 8 sec's behind him at the flag after two laps of 2.4 miles starting at 20 plus sec's apart)

I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Hi kev, the griff was quick but it felt like there was somthing missing,so after spending a small fortune on upgrades, bigger brakes and wheels so the brakes would fit, suspension etc,it still could have eaten a lot more money,so i traded it in for a cerbera and it all started again although that was f***ing fast handled well i felt there was still something missing,i guess i need/want handling like my old 250 gearbox kart, i grew up in love with TVR's but times have changed i want something that you can abuse with in reason that won't cost a fortune to maintain, so i think a stylus may fit the bill,as for engines i need to speak to tim i was thinking V8 but need to know what torque the chassis can take, and if it will fit, if not then a 2.3 duratec.

The thing about having a 2.3 duratec in such a light car , unlike the TVR whichever model , is it's enormous torque for a 4cl engine . Easily 205ft.lbs with little tuning and 220 ft.lbs possible when sorted. Just try Tim's 2lt with 220bhp / 180ft.lbs ish ----- you'll love it ------- a go kart for the road or set up accordingly '' a pussy cat ''. When is this kit car show ye speak of.

Total Kitcar Live on 14th October at Brands Hatch. You may have to pay £20 but can have a couple of laps as a passenger in the car of your choice round the circuit. I may not have my V8 by then as have had lots of interest, but you are welcome to have a ride in the meantime - perhaps one weekend or at the next Liphook meet.

If you want a look at zetec powered car I'm busy preparing mine for my first ever sprint on 1st Oct.
I'm still awating some parts prior to Rolling Road / MOT on 25th/26th, so I can't take you for a run just yet.
So if you want to look/talk do it now, or if you want a test run do it after the 1st !
I'm just the right side of Andover from Bristol , in Ludgershall, Wilts so not too far for a day out.
Car is 2 ltr Zetec on Jenveys, STD Cams/Top End (about 180 BHP), Type 9 Capri Box, ATB LSD Diff, Hi Spec 4 pot brakes, 15" Yokos. Set up for road at present, so has a hood, & trim. (Not for long, eh ROB ??)
Cheers

Eelmoor Sprint
Hi Paul
I'm doing the FDMC Eelmoor sprint nr Farnborough on 1st Oct.
I'm class 8 roadgoing 1600cc+ Only got an Elise to play with so far.
Rob's also entered Sports Libre, where anything goes. 6R4s again !!
There's also a rumour the Orange car will be there too.... for marketing purposes.
First time out for me, so I'm just going to enjoy it, find out how badly setup my car is, & look forward to next year.
The main thing is not to push too hard & bend it too soon !
Cheers
Matt
Looks a bit different now, but you get the idea. (& yes I have shortened the exhaust oulet !)
