Seat Belt tidy?

Post by kevp »

Can anyone post a pic or tell me the best way to make a seat belt tidy.
I need a method of "tidying" the belt & webbing when not in use. This is for a harness type belt.

Well Ive decided to try & get mine road legal. :o As its basically a road going spec & entered as a roadgoing car in the sprint championship. I have at least got an MOT on it. But of course the car should by rights be taxed & insured for this category. I have been lucky using it so far - but.

However I am faced with expensive choices. I do not have a log book. So to enter the Libre class I need an MSA log book. I have tried this but cannot get one without making the car to Sports Libre standard. plumbed fire extinguisher, dry break fuel line, "improved" roll bar etc. So I need a VOSA issued log book. To do this I need IVA.

IVA states that when the seat belt is not on, it must be tidied up, so as not to get caught in doors or whatever, (my interpretation). On a normal inertia type the belt is would up, out of the way. However on our type it flaps about.

So I wondered what others had done as this has been an SVA requirement.

My seatbelts were inertia reel but didn't recoil anywhere near enough to stop them getting caught in the doors, I was just careful. Some of these IVA rules do seem a little over the top, but I'm sure they have their reasons.

My fiesta has a slot on each side of the rear seats just big enough for the metal part of the seatbelt to slot into. This keeps it out of the way when lowering the seat-back.

Maybe you could make something similar or add a rubber strap to clip the belt under.

As I said , mine just got clipped together and the SVA didn't even mention it. Just undid them , clipped up again and that was that. In club sprinting , sports libre isn't that strict Kevin. I've had mine log booked ages. Fire extinguisher isn't plumbed in and the roll bar is simple enough . Mine's just a road car without lights , tax , mot , insurance . Bring it up here to the FDMC and Jim Morris will log book scrutineer it for you. It's a doddle :)

By the way , regarding the dry break fuel line --- our scrutineer says that's all bollocks . Even the rally boys got that thrown out. No scrutineer at our level is checking for that

Rob

I tried to get an MSA log book, but the nearest MSA official to me said I needed to comply with the sports libre requirements & told me to sort them out 1st.
i tried to chat with him to explain that for the class of sprinting I was entering it wasn't a requirement. And also if it was, it would be checked at scrutineering anyway. But no good.

My local VOSA station is Southampton. They are known as complete bastards, with no tolerance, common sense or life as we know it.

Get on line to the FDMC and join our club then talk to Jim Morris . He'll probably say lets have a look at it then tell you what's to be done to comply at club level. He rally's an Escort M2 very inexpensively so will be sensible.
