Abingdon trackday

Post by stylussprinter »

I had a good day at Abingdon to support Andy Braithwaite on his first ever track driving day . Once arrived I checked out his R888's pressures which were either too high or too low so set them all up at 17 psi . Had a quick look under the bonnet at the ARB installation and all bolts gripping the rodends were loose also the drivers side lever arm had the link in the second adjustment hole so moved it to the first to match the passenger side. Tightened up the bolts as hard as they would go --- the ball within the rodend must be the pivot on which the casing revolves , not the bolt . Checked camber which was 2.4 passenger and 1.5 drivers side . Couldn't change the 2.4 today so left it be . Rake was nil . Gave Andy a few changes to make which his wife wrote down for another day .
I went out with him twice during the day , pointing and gesticulating as we went around . He improved massively on our last run , really on the limit within the chassis present set up .
Proof of the 2.4 being incorrect were tyre temp's of 114 inside edge 96 outside edge , whilst the drivers side was 102 across the whole width . Unfortunately Sherpa joints can only be turned a complete turn not half so very fine changes can't be made but one turn should bring the 2.4 back close to 1.5 If the chassis is set up well there will be more corner speed and then an ideal of around 1.7 would be good but not attainable with Sherpa's .

I told Andy he should compete as he certainly learned very quickly . His wife took lessons and also improved well but not as quick as Andy .
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !
