Testing

Post by stylussprinter »

I've been looking at costs regarding track time and Mallory comes out best at £105 for a half day testing between 9-00am and 12-30pm . It's also closer to me than Goodwood and is available every Wednesday morning for general testing
I'm getting rusty only doing three events , eight weeks between every event so may take a trip up there either next Wed 13th or the Wed 20th
Anyone fancy a day out at Mallory :?: I've watched superbikes racing there but never been round it myself so it would be an education for me .

If I go I'll be leaving around 6-00am
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Had a Jag day there with Dave in the E-type.
It's fast & fun with a very long 180 first corner.
We ran out of pads & drove home with no brakes - another it'll be all right to drive the car as is day :|

The quickest thing there was a BEC Striker that a Jag club member had brought along - visibly quicker than £300ks worth of a well pedalled E-type lightweight replica !

He doesn't bring the E Type out very often , maybe blitzing his '' poor suby '' has something to do with it ------ shame cos I was assuming he'd arrive in the E Type :P

Yes , the 180 degree bend at the end of the pit straight . I've no idea of my approach to that , whether it can be taken on a ' feather ' in 4th or needs more grunt and opp lock in 3rd ----- like I said , it'll be an education  I'll be looking for the quickest route round there whatever that may be .

Pits are all open, in the infield.
Chucking it down here too, but I'm getting a few things done.

Stayed dry for our sessions . I found it quite tricky to be quick through Gerrards but on the third and final session I managed to stay with a classic MGA timewise . His best was 55 sec's and I wasn't much off that because we were circulating together and he didn't pass me ----- which he did in the first session . Loved the Esses and Hairpin , great fun . Fifth wasn't really needed but it was pulling 8000rpm in fourth at the end of each straight --- around 124mph for my car.
An education for me but I'd need to do more here to do a winning lap

Stuart came with me and Simon B(Striker)arrived at the circuit on his way to a business commitment. Many thanks to both , it makes life easier with help . Hopefully we'll see Simon at the Odiham Chinook sprint in September , he's keen to get started at sprinting --- a supercharged 4AGE in a Striker should be fun :P

NOTE -- Matt D . My regs came yesterday so my entry is in the post :!: Simon fancies it too .

I'm using my wife's laptop or the iphone to access the forum due to browser problems on the PC , so can't attach photo's these days.
There are plenty of pic's of the Mallory test day on this website of their official photographer . Listed under CAR EVENTS then MALLORY TEST DAYS ---- date 20/7/11
I was in session 1a , 2a and 3a at half an hour sessions.

A good day at Mallory , definitely a circuit worth going to again, might just have to go and see some racing there, good for spectating,a good old fashioned club circuit
Stylus looked great on track alongside a couple of phoenix kit car racers and a mix of historic saloons, a cobra(awesome to watch turning into gerrards) and a host of regular racers making the most of the test day for silverstone classic racing weekend and some very quick cars/drivers combinations:D

Looked up Bob Lines in the MGA and he has been racing it since 1984 in the MG Car Club championship and also a jag D type in thoroughbred sportscars championship.

Tried uploading some photos but website keeps crashing half way through even after resizing photos so not sure why.

Good news ...I can make the 6th august 8)

Good you can make it for the B&H MC Goodwood sprint , hopefully it'll be dry to push that little bit harder  I had some trouble trying to refit the gear knob securely but it's on now ---- so much use of it at Mallory , I suppose that's why it came adrift

Not sure about the freak starting gremlin , it's started several times in the shed without any bother . When it's happened on track it spins the engine fast enough but doesn't fire then totally unexpectedly the damn thing goes . Can't find any wiring fault as yet
