Diff rebuild
Diff rebuild
Does anyone know of someone who can be trusted to do a decent re-build on a sierra LSD diff?
Based near to Southampton, so someone local would be good, but can send it off if need be.
Also, anyone ever come across judder when going in reverse? Im posting on behalf of my father-in-law who has a Luego. Got a 3.0 Essex V6 with a tyoe 9 box and sierra LSD rear diff. Has tried a different diff with the same result. Gearbox has been recently re-built and has had a new clutch.....
The diff is wining like mad so needs sorting out anyway, would be nice to get to the bottom of the judder though......
Thanks in advance.

I would go here: -

or here

Not on your doorstep, but not too far away.
Hardy Eng. are well known in historic racing circles.

Re: Diff rebuild
When I was going down the atlas route I tried a few places with no luck.
The garages here seem to just want to do gearboxes or swap complete parts.
You can try these though http://www.southamptongarageandgearboxservices.co.uk/

Re: Diff rebuild
Depends what is causing the judder, have a read of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=343
In short I changed the diff mounting bolts from 12mm to 1/2inch, this cured the clunk I was getting.

You may very well want to consider Road & Race Transmissions in Kent... they seem to have a very good reputation.

Re: Diff rebuild
Hi Matt,
A second vote for Road & Race Transmissions. These guys sort out most of the Caterham problem Sierra diffs - and there have been a few They will sometimes do a while-you-wait service if you arrange in advance.
Before you send it off though it's probably worth checking if the crownwheel and pinion are matched. This was the problem with the Caterham ones. You can tell as the same number should be stamped on both parts (visible with the coverplate off). If they don't match, don't waste your money as it will never be right/quiet. Also, if the teeth are sharp then it's probably knackered and beyond repair.
Cheapest option, if either of the above is true, is to get a secondhand one. All mine have come from a scrappy and have been fine.
Regards,
Giles

Re: Diff rebuild
Thanks for the replys guys, will hunt through all the links and see what looks best if he still wants to get it done.
I think he used the diff and box service guy in southampton when he had the gearbox done and they did a good job.
