Matt and Kevin both thought my air scoop had crap flow potential , so as a half hearted modification to improve it , I've sikaflexed in a thin curve of kevlar level with the mouth of what was the forward air entry. If this isn't enough to supply the beast with it's appetite for air then I intend to cut the 100mm pipe within the engine bay and fit an inline filter. The open end of the pipe can then point forward again behind the grill guard.
Bits of kevlar for ' hole ' strengthening at the side shut lines are in. If trying to shut the flip on your own , it's quite tricky and easy to snag the shut lines at the bottom ie -- shut inside rather than outside :x

With that in mind , I've utilised bits of my old carbon exhaust to make curved guides to draw the passenger side bottom shut into position.

It's a 6 inch diameter with 2.75 inch through pipe which is what a zetec with my tune level needs. It's a BTB second hand from a tuning company's dyno , after they found it necessary to go to 7 inch
The key thing is -- not to go too thin with the ' can ' or it will resonate like hell but the use of basalt as packing was the big step for me , having struggled with db's at scrutineering for years. Tried ready packing(just push a pre-formed tube straight into the ' can ') then the much paraded ' E ' glass (long strand f/glass) That needed doing almost every event and it stunk and smoked as though on fire when you stopped :o The basalt DOES do the job , if very carefully packed / it's a bit of a skill but done properly will lower your db's 2 to 4 db's . Contact Techcraft near Lymington , he was a hillclimb champion over many years. It's about £35 a bag which will pack my silencer twice

3db doesn't 'sound' much until you realise that every 3bd is double the volume!!!

Trailered the Stylus to Joe Middleton today and he reckons it'll be ready to collect this Thursday :o He's going to fill the bonnet to ' flip ' gap that I left though because he says that with preparation and paint the gap will get full of dust etc and you'll see non painted bits through the gap
I was saving weight . He says he'll just bridge the gap rather than fill it so's to keep weight down
Apparently I'm going to get a CD of the job from start to finish. Can't wait till Thursday now 8)

It probably generates business . Other people look at the process of laying on filler , rubbing back , etching then the paint and pollish etc ---- I'll bore you all with it next week

Just one or two pic's for now till it's cleaned up and painted underneath plus it's got to be heat insulated over the manifold or the bonnet will collapse under the heat  I also had quite some trouble re-fitting the flip because the holes in the bonnet didn't line up. Filling the open edge around the centre bonnet plus painting seems to have shrunk it very slightly --- probably because it's so very thin  Bit more fettling
