Is the RT chassis different from the Classic?

I thought it was a body mod.

RT body mod ?

Yes , it is a body mod' apart from width of suspension as the body's wider. SSC -- STYLUS SPORTS CARS as opposed to Specialist Sports Cars under Peter P , may have changed the chassis numbering system to mark Tim's chassis out from previous ones . OR just started a new chassis numbering for RT's when they first came out :?: I'll ask him at some point.

Rob.(2002 was 1st RT ? anyone know different?)

Where is the chassis number usually located? on our front cross member we have a plate with C3 stamped on it, and thats it. Is this the numbering system now?

cheers

Kevin , the system was changed on Tim's buy out of SSC and goes like this ------------------------------ SSC R or S(stylus or RT) I or L (independant or live axle) 010 (the 1st chassis on buy out)

So an RT with live axle will be SSC R L ------- ? or a Classic SSC S L -------- ?
Alec's was Tim's first chassis  . It will be handy to figure out the origin of secondhand cars with this system ---- if it looks like an RT but has a number SSC S etc , you will know it's a conversion. Spoke to Tim today. Rob.

C3 ???

There should have been a chassis number allocated when you bought it . It would have been mentioned on the invoice but not stamped on ---- that's for the builder to do then a VIN number gets allocated once SVA's done which you then have to fix to the chassis. I marked mine onto alloy then sikaflexed that onto the chassis rail.

Well, I've been looking on my invoice and there's no number on it. Think I will have to give Tim a call so he can start digging into his files to figure out wich one it should be.

Haven't checked the chassis yet though. Where should it be located if any is present?

where ?

Peter started by putting his demo chassis no' on top of the pedal box cover and most people followed suit. However , the vin no' given to you after SVA and DVLA inspection for registration ---- I was told had to be on the main chassis frame which gives a lot of choice. I put mine where it could be seen easily directly behind the drivers side front suspension inboard rocking arm tower. As they don't do the stamping (DVLA) just the number supply , it could be anywhere really.

I had to have my chassis no in place for the SVA.

But was led to believe that I could make a number up if I wanted, and to have it positioned in 2 different places.

So if Tim's no. starts at 010 where did Pete's finish?

you have to have a chassis plate i think for sva but it does not have to be stamped into chassis until dvla inspection after sva.

the dvla were happy with me having ssc r l 010 as my VIN number and did not issue me with a 17 digit one. this may depend on which local station you take it to though.

Bloody rules!

hi folks BIG SORRY for not being on sooner!having had my kit since 2000,and demonstrating them in scotland for (pete and linda)pete left it upto yourselfs to stamp your chassis number on as some folk were right in saying they put them on the pedal box cover and front chassis rail mines is SSC98042 i picked it up late 1998 september and pete said it was chassis 42 as you know you only needed a minimum of 8 digits for a chassis number then.

Seems '98 was the Stylus boom year.
